I play mostly Visual Pinball games from GameEx lately. I was having a trouble with GameEx hanging and not coming back when exiting a Visual Pinball game, but I resolved that by turning off Map Keys in the emu config.

Now I seem to have an intermittant issue when I exit GameEx. GameEx will exit back to the desktop but it will still be running in my process list. I am not able to shutdown or log off until I can get the GameEx process killed. At the same time, just getting the Task Manager to show takes forever. Also trying to do anything else with the computer takes forever also. When I finally get the Task Manager up, I don't see GameEx taking any resources, but when I kill it, everything goes back to normal.

I have mame, n64, nes, etc games also, but I haven't tested just playing any of those to see if I still have the same problem exiting.

I am leaning towards this being an issue with the vpauto.exe script, but I am not sure. My thoughts are that it might not be signaling GameEx that it has exited, so GameEx is waiting for it?

This usually is happening when I play two to three different tables and then exit out of GameEx.

Any thoughts will be much appreciated. Running latest 4.89 version.

vpauto.exe should no longer be running once you've exited a pinball table. Is it still running once GameEx exits?

VPAuto doesn't "signal" anything to GameEx. I know Tom added somethng to ensure that VPAuto terminates when you exit a pinball table, though.

Does it exit the process list eventually after some time? I don think its VPAuto.exe either. Its probably something to do with Visual Pinball messing up DirectX. Can you capture and post your log when GameEx wont shut down please? I want to see where its getting stuck.

So I went to do some testing and before I do anything I check the process list and vpauto.exe is still running. (I had killed GameEx the night before, I must have missed that vpauto.exe was running too.) And the icon is showing down in the taskbar at the bottom right. (I have a full screen shot of this, just don't have time to post it)

So I killed vpauto.exe.

Now, I have had my taskbar set to autohide. I unchecked it so the taskbar would stay showing and started GameEx.

For the life of me, I cannot get GameEx to hang anymore on shutdown. Go figure. I mean it was hanging almost everytime I exited. I played around all afternoon on this. I haven't renabled autohide on the task bar, but will try that later to see if the hanging comes back.

My wife and I are having a baby tomorrow so I won't be posting again till later this week.

I will post back as soon as I can. Thanks
