headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 ooooh no,It does not fill anything other than decription, also if "name" is ticked, it wipes that?sorry... It's working fine for me Any errors in the log file? It's definately working for me so see if you can track down the problem. The latest version is 1.39 Quote

The latest version is 1.39It has happened 3 times now. Most of the time it works fine? just every now and then the fields are cleared? Nothing logged i am sorry to say..I promise i am not dreaming it. Only happens with Allgame. The game is in the results, select all, double click and all is cleared.. (Karnov's Revenge - neo geo mvs was one i think).not a big problem though. Quote

headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Just tried it and it worked for me. Selected the NeoGeo database, selected Pulstar, Search AllGame, used "Select All" then cleared Name, Publisher and Date.AllGame doesn't have number of players so it should fill out the Description and Category which it did. Double check you have the latest version right now that's all I can think it could be.EDIT: I missed your previous post about it only happening sometimes. I'll look into it some moreEDIT2: Sorry mate I can't replicate it here Wierd. Maybe it was just some issue with the AllGame website or something? Let me know if it keeps happening and if there is some sort of pattern when it screws up. Quote

headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Leave name, publisher and date TICKED. Geeesh Your sentence confused me when you said "cleared the Name and publisher and date". I thought you meant you cleared the check boxes but you meant they are getting cleared somehow by the program. It doesn't matter whether I have all of them selected or not it still works for me either way. I tried it with about 30 different games and it never clears any fields for me. Like I said maybe it's some issue your having with the AllGame website, I don't know. Quote

Like I said maybe it's some issue your having with the AllGame website, I don't know. I have no idea why it does not do it for you - but i promise you and all the pixies and imps that have stood in my way (and the little gremlin who put humous in my shoes) I AM NOT MAD!!!. There, now you know, so put that in your pipe and smoke it!! It gets other data for description and that is all.... I wonder if it is something to do with the memory thingy-ma-jig-stick? All i originally wanted to get (or at least, all i was doing) was getting the description. Now that is all i get, why it clears name, publisher, and year i have no idea.. So, i thought a good idea was to delete the ini file - just is in case.. I selected it and hit delete, missed the key and accidently deleted my desk... Now i am sitting on the floor writing this. Anyway, had another go and deleted the ini file and re-started the editor. Went into the neo geo and created a new game called "Boulderdash" (i know there was not one - but i know the NES version has full info), selected it and did allgane, select all, double clicked on the nes version and.... (fanfare) all that happened is that the description is added and the name is removed... Nothing changed So, I checked the error log and think i have found a problem... Here it is fully.. ------------------- 02/09/2008 16:07:16: GameEx Database Manager v1.39 02/09/2008 16:07:16: Reading Config 02/09/2008 16:08:12: Writing Config ------------------- The problem i have noticed is that my watch is 2 minutes fast, or my laptop is 2 minutes slow... Not sure if this matters though Anyway - the problem is still there Quote
headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 I tried the same thing, created a new game, typed in boulderdash, selected all fields, searched AllGame, double clicked the NES version. It added in the data okay. It's really hard to debug when I cant replicate it here Quote

Perhaps it lies there somewhere?? I don't know..Got backache now - god, i miss my desk PS. English humour (TOM ) Quote
headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 I'm actually a big fan of British comedy. I got all Ricky Gervais dvds although I think there is a mixed reaction to his stand up over there. I prefer Extras to the Office. I like Terry Gilliam's work too. You will have to give me an update on whats the best stuff over there at the moment as we are way behind. We've only just got the first series of Ideal for example. Seen a few episodes of the Royle Family which I liked. League of Gentleman was a classic, love that dark British humour. I must admit though not a fan of Mr Bean but I did like Rowan in Black Adder. Red Dwarf another classic and Little Britain was pretty good too. Sacha Baron Cohan is a legend too... Like I said I like alot of it I must admit I didn't recognise the backache reference though but like I said we are way behind in British comedy series over here.Anyway yeah good idea to test it out later, I also did a minor bug fix so it will be version 1.4 now. Let me know if it's working on your home PC. Quote

Now i am sitting on the floor writing this.I will let you know how i get on when i get home with the editor, and will update the COMPLETE neg-geo mvs/eas DB for ya Quote
greatflash Posted September 1, 2008 Posted September 1, 2008 Right, downloaded your new version of the editor with all the files, and it works now. Something must have gone amiss when just updating the exe... What - i have no idea.I have thought of a really nice addition. When I finish a DB i like to sort each column to check they are all correct. When sorting by the Publisher, sometimes i find that LOTS of them are slightly different (even if they look identical sometimes - EXACTLY IDENTICAL), examples of miss-named ones are "SNK of America", "SNK of America Corp.", "SNK of America Corporation". Presently you have to go to each one and use the pull down for publisher to change them (on the latest db there were over 60). Would it be possible to group select them and change elements as a whole?Just a nice time-saving idea.Anyway, here is the Neo-Geo MVS/AES list, I hope it contains everything. Manually added 60 or so roms including Jap names, so hopefully it should be 100% complete.Have fun.PS. Will also up ALL my current XML's so you can see if we are all current. This will also include part made ones (c64, intell) as this is also a good way of keeping a back-up. They will be at the usual place. Some xmls are removed (mophun, psp, etc.. the pointless ones - at the moment anyway)phew again... Think I will have a little break from the db's for a few days now (unless you come up with another great time saver )_Console__SNK_Neo_Geo_v1.022.zip Quote
headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Thanks Flash Glad that wierd error seems to have gone. Perhaps it was some connection issue with AllGames or something.I see what you mean about the different Publisher names. I'll have a think about how to add a multiple edit system or maybe some sort of search & replace system. Quote

I'll have a think about how to add a multiple edit system or maybe some sort of search & replace system.Multiple edit is all that is needed. (a search would be nice just to check if you already have a game in the list under a different name format - so you can check before adding another)Can you make note for me of what has been updated since the tutorial (if you can remember), i will update it again soon.Just expanding the db for scumm to include all working games and also fanmade. Will modify the loader for you and upload to the ftp when done if that is ok with you?Did you grab the xml's?All the best (as always)Don't forget to add Neo Geo to my little list at the start of the topic - i'm keeping scores (i think i am winning?) headkaze Posted September 1, 2008 Author Posted September 1, 2008 Yep I got the xml's thanks Um the main change was adding the search results but a few buttons were changed around aswell. I hope that doesn't mean too many changes for you. Don't put it on a high priority though I think databases are more important than the tutorial and all our other volunteers seem to have gone on vacation.Happy for you to update the loader, let Tom know about it as well so he can update the file hosted on the main site.I guess for the multi-edit thing, I will need to add a set of checkboxes so you can select which fields to edit for the selected games. Shouldn't be too hard to do, I'll see what I can do. Quote

Shouldn't be too hard to do, I'll see what I can do.all it need really is a right-click option like "Modify fields". So you can select a group of roms, right click, select, and then get a box like the input one. Only this time, fill all boxes (ones ticked in opions) with "<do not modify>". then i could either select one and start typing, or use the pulldown as before to enter data. Only fields that have been modified will be changed..Does that make sense? Would also be able to utilise some existing code Quote
headkaze Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Okay another update to GXDBM! This time I removed the buttons and went for a menu strip instead. It gives me more room to add options and I think it's better organised and easier to understand.Added a menu option "Edit Game(s)", when you have multiple games selected it will popup a dialog where you can select which fields you want to edit. Then you basically enter the data you want and it will edit all the games. Quote

greatflash Posted September 2, 2008 Posted September 2, 2008 Ok, this is a full DB for ScummVM.The DB has increased from the original 24 games to a more comprehensive 87.This now includes all known working games for ScummVM except the Fan made ones. I decided not to include these for now as I personally am more interested in the history of games, and this is what the DB is for - so you can read the history and see when these were released. I was gonna add them but decided against it...The Loader for Scumm (hk's) will be updated hopefully tonight to also include all the games and to make inplicit use of the db to create a cohesive naming scheme for all the games. The map file is no longer needed for the names and is too small to make any difference to the time it takes for GameEx to scan the roms. If it really MUST be included - please let me know..Anyway - for some reason this db that I thought would take an hour or so has taken the best part of 5 hours to do The years are all based on the EARLIEST release of the game rather than the platform you may be using to run it (dos, win, mac, pc-fx, st, etc).Cheers...(this is the XML file and no use to anyone except Tom and Ben)The DB will be added to the main set in due course._PC__ScummVM_v1.029__Flash_.zip Quote
headkaze Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 Thanks again Flash. I really am confused about the problems your having with the search feature. Are these problems only on your work PC or at home as well? I've tested it quite a bit and can't replicate it. Quote

headkaze Posted September 2, 2008 Author Posted September 2, 2008 PS. can i please have the save button back, perhaps a big red flashing one The amount of times I have forgotten to select save and then lost all the roms i have added Lol that was one of the main reasons I was reluctant to go with a menu system but I think it was worth changing to. What I need to do is add a "save dialog" which will pop up when you've made changes to the database and your about to exit or load another database. That should solve that problem. I will add that as soon as I get some time to work on it again. Quote
