greatflash Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 How about I make you a mod, so you can do it yourself? As if I don't have enough on my plate :) But I like the "Elite Member" bit I can if you want..? But perhaps HK would rather maintain that with aid from you on what is implemented regarding GameEx? It is really HK's little baby after all..Up to you really.. Have a word with HK first.did you know that the N64 Dats have entries for both "Mario Golf" and "Mario Golf 64", just because one is european and the other isn't. That is how far I am in this damn N64 one. PS. Adding all Developer fields as I go along... Quote

In regard to the developer, how much does GameEx DBM already scrape? I think I initially underestimated what was involved. Sorry about that. Quote

In regard to the developer, how much does GameEx DBM already scrape? I think I initially underestimated what was involved. Sorry about that.It varies - some systems it is as high as 80%+ and some it is 0%, from what I have done so far, I would say around 60-70% - so it is not that bad. But when the info is not there, it can be a REAL pain to find it. Sometimes resorting to downloading the covers (if found) and looking at them for any pointers..The scan - to be honest, I forgot! I will really try to do it for you tomorrow morning at work and will post it to the ftp when I get home (8 ish).Sorry, did not mean to appear ungreatful regarding mod status - it would be an honor. I just think that between you and HK is were it should lie for the posting of such a topic. Though I would be happy to do so.! Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I see you as a strong part of the team, and would be honored to have you as a mod, and I think youd be good at it. However I always like things to be an optional and fun thing for people around here. So if its something youd like then fantastic, if not its cool too. I was not expecting gratitude or otherwise, just wanted to give you the option, now or at a later date. That's pretty much how I put it to the other mods, and thats how I see it. Im already greatful for all you do around here as it is, and the same goes for BKenobi, who also does loads around here, but didnt feel it right to be a mod just at the moment.Cheers TomEDIT: In other words, YES, I would like, but its your choice! In a way, this one is a bit redundant as no-one really uses it except us three. Even if someone else has a problem with database matching, errors, etc, they start a new topic. but at least a topic listing the complete db's would help let people know what the updates are (set for mod posts only). headkaze Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Okay I edited the first post to list all the databases, now I guess we need to go through them to show their status somehow. Okay I color coded them the same as in DBM. What do you think Flash? Quote
bkenobi Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I'm a little confused now. I thought these new databases would be named differently than the ones that we did last time. Since they have the same name, how do we know which ones are updated in the released version of GameEx? Does it matter as far as the config goes? Do I have to do anything to get these new databases other than keep up to date with GameEx? Since there's no download links in this thread and Tom is being kept up to date, I assume the answer is "just sit tight and we'll take care of it". Correct? Quote
headkaze Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 I didn't see the point in changing the name format, so that stays the same. If you open the new databases in Access there is a new table called "Configuration" it has the version information there. We are pretty much taking care of it, but the databases are no longer part of the GameEx install, you have to download them manually. Correct?Because they are ALL new.The only thing I wanted people to know was WHAT system databases were now complete. They do not affect any of your configs and all the new databases have been included with gameex releases since around 9.40 i believe. They are now available as a seperate download if wished in an offline pack from the main gameex download page. The same names had to be kept so that they would slipstream with current users configs so not to mess them up.So, please don't get yourself all confused and mystified... It will be in the release notesDoes it matter as far as the config goes?No its all automatic, if your already using themDo I have to do anything to get these new databases other than keep up to date with GameEx?No, but there not downloaded with auto update. So a full install is required.Since there's no download links in this thread and Tom is being kept up to date, I assume the answer is "just sit tight and we'll take care of it". Correct?Pretty much, other than there not included in the auto update. They are also available from gameex.net for an offline install. Quote

Okay I color coded them the same as in DBM. What do you think Flash? Thanks HK. I will try to work out what is what with the databases and make a list of what is missing or complete.Ie.Saturn (V1.2) - As complete as needed, missing some of the unplayable Japanese games.Colecovision (V1.049) - Contains all known games, demos, and bios.Intellivision (V1.035) - Contailns all known games, demos, and bios.Nintendo 64 (V1.036) - Contains all known games. demos, bios, and hacks are ommitted (for now)...ETC.....(versions added just so I can keep track)what do ya think.I thought this may be a handy thing to have as a Topic that is just an update page seeing as the databases are now becoming such an integral part of GameEx. A topic that only allows Mod, Admin posting? As BK has shown, for others trying to follow what is going on in this topic, it can get a tad confusuing! Quote
headkaze Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 Thanks Flash I got those latest xml's from the FTP.I've noticed lots of them don't have a biography in them. You can delete SysInfo.xml because DBM doesn't use it anymore, the biography is now stored in the database's xml file.So can you please add them in when you get a chance, all I did was open SysInfo.xml in a text editor and copy/paste them into DBM. I did go through and do that for all of them, but it was pointless since many of the xml's I had were older versions. Quote
headkaze Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 You must have posted that at the same time. Well if you get mod status you can edit the first post to add that info. I don't mind the thread being open to others and we can always go through and trim out irrelevent posts down the line if needed.IMHO I think we should keep pinned topics to a minimum and I don't think it's necessary to open a new thread to just list the status of the databases. The first post in this one should cover it don't you think? Quote

I will keep sysinfo for this reason. In the (way) earlier post, I meant database.xml, as I had to add Naomi to it (my mistake). So, yes - I will do.. Quote

greatflash Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 I think I was only made Mod because I bought a Key ring and a thong from the GameEx shop. That reminds me, I must get Tempest's address so I can send the thong on to him! He said that is what he really wanted for christmas, who am I to disapoint him? Quote

headkaze Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 BTW Shouldn't the N64 one be amber then? I thought red meant mostly incomplete, amber was nearly complete and green complete? I think we need a key at the end of the list showing what the colors mean because I don't even think I know what they mean Quote

I was gonna addsome data to the end of each entry when the N64 one is released. but, a colour-code would be good (makes it a bit harder for me to read though - but that is prob just me) Quote
headkaze Posted October 20, 2008 Author Posted October 20, 2008 I changed the colors around a bit so it's easier to read now Quote
