greatflash Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I can do that but I thought GX didn't use the Developer field? It doesn't at the moment. But with Toms addition of the "Other systems" links in gameex when you select a game, it is only a matter of time before he does want to use them.. Just think it is worth doing them now before I do too many db's and have to go back. Luckily it is easy to just tick a box in gxdbm and viola! Quote
greatflash Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I tried the Naomi DB but it looks like I'm not getting anything unless I'm doing something wrong I'm sure it's something to do with my dumps I'm not really sure which dumps they are.The Naomi DB has been updated to contain Mame/Demul names for rom sets. That should help. It was intended only to contain GDrom dumps, but needs must - as they say..I will upload it later.. Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 13, 2008 Posted October 13, 2008 I can do that but I thought GX didn't use the Developer field?Hey Ben, as Flash says, Im probably looking to improve database support in GameEx over time. Quote
lalandev Posted October 15, 2008 Posted October 15, 2008 Thx Flash for the Atari databases! Was looking to play a few excellent games on these consoles...As usual: great work. Quote

headkaze Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Hey Ben, as Flash says, Im probably looking to improve database support in GameEx over time.I didn't know that, am I out of the loop now or something? Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I didn't know that, am I out of the loop now or something? No your not, you know how vague I can be I just asked flash to provide me the dbases with developer field, I didnt provide any detail as to why, just that I thought there was potential. Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 Sorry, forgot to say, I also thought the developer field would be useful for the new site. Quote
headkaze Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 I thought there was a database party and I wasn't invited Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I thought there was a database party and I wasn't invited Nah, definitly not mate See email. Quote
greatflash Posted October 16, 2008 Posted October 16, 2008 I thought there was a database party and I wasn't invited It was yesterday... I must send you all the xmls by the way HK.I will up them this weekend to the ftp for ya. It's just nice to have a backup. Half way through the damn n64 db.. It started off at 990 or so entries and it is now down to 750. Removed all the demos and bios images for now to get them done quicker. With GXDBM I can always go back later and add them. Just wanna get the db's done as quick as I can... They can become a weight on your shoulders, as it were. With the smaller db's I will leave the demo's in (like I did on the coleco, intell, atari etc). The atari VCS one will have to be missing demos and hacks for now - it is 5389 entries, and that is after I have removed lots.sorry, I had to but in there as I was feeling a bit left out Quote
headkaze Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Okay so just so you know I've been working on the DBM software today, and have currently implemented the drop down list for Developer.I am now working on the exporting of multiple databases into a single database. You wanted the Name, System, and Developer fields to be included but I think I'll add a form where you can choose the fields you want as I'm sure it will change in the future.Let me know of anything else needed for this next update. But having the option is a good idea. Can the form remember the last selections?I will zip ALL mdbs to you. May be helpful for checking purposes? You can safely replace yours with them. (and read my little notes :) ) Quote
headkaze Posted October 16, 2008 Author Posted October 16, 2008 Which one am I supposed to download? The "[backup]" one seems to have older xml's? Quote
greatflash Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 Which one am I supposed to download? The "[backup]" one seems to have older xml's?I meant I would upload them this week end. I will upload them today. This will be the complete xml collection and the sysinfo as there is a slight update for Naomi support.ps. sorry... Quote
headkaze Posted October 17, 2008 Author Posted October 17, 2008 Okay that's fair enough mate, I was going to put them in the next upload but I'll do it later.I uploaded a new version of the DBM program (it will be fine to go for the ExeOnly version) which now adds Developer drop down list and also a new option called File->Export Mdb(s) and basically you can select a bunch of databases from the list and select which fields you want to include from a dialog and it will export them to a single mdb.Let me know if there are any problems Quote
Tempest Posted October 17, 2008 Posted October 17, 2008 I really think that is for the best. . . . PS. Sort out your bloody avitar picture, or did you make it really small so that you could fit a picture of Asteroids in there as well?I was bored, and updated my avatar today. Do you like it? Quote
greatflash Posted October 18, 2008 Posted October 18, 2008 I was bored, and updated my avatar today. Do you like it?Well... It is better - though not as ICONIC as Asteroids Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Just a heads up, Im planning on implementing an "All Games" feature, this will effecitvly allow an automatic emulator group of all systems that are setup. Quite a good use of the databases I think. ie see all games by year, all games by category etc. Quote
greatflash Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 Just a heads up, Im planning on implementing an "All Games" feature, this will effecitvly allow an automatic emulator group of all systems that are setup. Quite a good use of the databases I think. ie see all games by year, all games by category etc.Sounds great to me.. Depending on speed of course.Don't know what tags you are gonna use - Title, Developer, System, year.. I would not use Publisher as it is so much of a 'catch all'. So many games were released by the same publisher and sometimes the same game series crossed several publishers. Developer (when added to all) is perhaps a better choice. Ie. Treasure did not publish all there games, but selecting Treasure would (should) bring up all there games regardless of system or Publisher. One note, when you do release this - please tell people that the feature will never give perfect results untill ALL db's are complete. And as you know - this could be quite a while (one man and all that ). I just don't want people disapointed that the selected games by "Bitmap Brothers" and the nes version of Chaos Engine was not shown - etc. Looking forward to it. Now trying to find enough time to complete the n64 one and then go back and try and fill all the Developer fields in the earlier complete db's...Phew!PS. I knew this was coming, sixth sense.. Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 No worries, Ill make it quite clear the databases are a WIP. Im really not wanting to put pressure on you, but it seems I am regardless, so sorry about that.In regard to speed, I think we should be good now after the caching improvements I made in the last release. Tom Speirs Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 If I ever see a stranger (or a dog) wearing a GameEx t-shirt in my lifetime, then Ill consider the project complete, and cease development immediatly!And.. If I ever see a girl wearing a GameEx thong, ill marry her. Quote

If I ever see a girl wearing a GameEx thong, ill marry her. You are so easily pleased PS. Is it worth having a sticky to mark "Completed" db's. IE. a topic that is not open for replys that can hold info just on the database side of things, listing completed db's. I know the "new database project" part does show this, but it is on the first page of a long list and not many people would think to look?Just a thought. Quote
Tom Speirs Posted October 20, 2008 Posted October 20, 2008 How about I make you a mod, so you can do it yourself? Quote
