We got 2 new Dell PowerEdge R900 servers fully loaded at work. They will be used to host VMware Vitrual servers, but for giggles I loaded XP64 on it. Had some funkiness with drivers. But I put my GameEx image with full mame32 v122 and all the avi snaps I have.

The 4 Quad Xeon proc are nice but it does not take advantage of it. But it is fully loaded with 128GB of DDR. I preloaded the whole installation in memory.

It plays a mean game of pac man.

It runs so fast the emu is fully loaded and running when you touch the button. Actually I think it is so fast it may have started and been running before I clicked and it actually defying time itself. KI2 started so fast I could not time it. I would say >0.25 sec.

What about NFL Blitz and others that normal pcs cannot run.. I can get KI2 to run at 200 % with frame limit disabled on my core 2 duo 2.4 laptop.

That's awesome. This might be what I need to buy to get NBA hangtime for project 64 to run.

Nba hangtime for pj64 emulation is horrable..

However the Arcade NBA Maxium Hangtime runs almost 300% with frame limit disabled.

The arcade version is MUCH better than the n64 port.

I am a little new at MAME, how do you output the performance benchmark that you are quoting for individual roms?

I have not yet delved into Project64, heard of it but have been working os PS PS2 first. Could you pm me with a link or two for your sources.

FYI, full list refresh, on all .122 roms and CHDs in GameEx runs under 2s.

The arcade version of NBA Hangtime runs slow for me as well. :(. I'm using a mini-ITX mainboard with no graphics card, so I have limited capabilities. I'm using MAME32. Any ideas how I can increase performance? I didn't see an option for the "Frame limit disabled" that you mentioned.

Heat will slow down your machine...

Also, if you have limited ram and a low powered CPU (which is possible with the Mini-ITX standard boards), you will have lower performance. It should be enough for most games, just not more modern stuff.

NBA Maximum Hangtime runs at 143% on my home system.....

Core 2 quad with 2 gig ddr3 and a 9800 GX2!

Those Mini ITX boards use very low end processors as they dont run as hot as the newer ones.

Its probably a celeron or sempron... What is the clock speed?

To turn off frame limit you can use the I think its F10 button... Or at least its one of those.. You will see in the upper corner or your screen.

Also you will gain performace if you remove the -tripplebuffer switch from gameex.. Tho I cant guarentee it will make nba hang time playable for you.

I know your pc kicks ass.

Can you emulate ps2 decently with it?

PS2 runs between 35-40 fps, though most games are still unplayable due to graphic problems. Some games are better than others. Simpsons road rage runs at 42 fps (ave.) in game, though there is no road drawn :(

This is the mainboard I used: http://www.logicsupply.com/products/ex15000g

It's 1.5 GHz, with 1 G RAM. It has "Integrated VIA UniChrome Pro II 3D/2D AGP graphics with MPEG-2/4 and WMV9 accelerator" onboard graphics.

My system was meant to be a retro thing, so I'm ok without modern games. I just love me some hang time and would be thrilled if I could get it to run.

I tried it without triple buffer and forcing it to skip 50% of the frames. But it's still slow. :(. Any other recommendations for improving quality, or is my PC just too limited?

Holy shit... I didnt even know they still made via cyrix processors. I have a feeling your stuck. Unless your board will support AMD type cpu's

Back in the amd k62 days you were able to interchange the chips on most boards. So its not the clock speed its the technology on the processor.

Id opt to go with an OLD build of mame and see if that helps :)

A lot of those MiniITX boards (especially the ones that Fry's sells) have the chip soldered right on. If so, you won't be able to upgrade the CPU. I thought about getting one of those for a file server, but then decided rather than shrinking things, paying 3 times as much total, and dealing with heat issues all over the place (3+ drive hardware RAID system) to just bite the bullet and accept a standard case in the office. My wife didn't complain, so no issues.

Anyway, my point is that MiniITX is great if it's exactly what you need...just don't expect to upgrade it.
