Hi.

I have just registered GameEx so I could start using the 7zip and goodmerge options. The first time I tried it with my snes pack it worked flawesly. But suddenly everything has gone wrong. I have added more emus with 7zip and goodmerged and I get bad random results. From gameex freezing when trying to list names, to not detecting it's a goodmerged rom and not showing anything when trying to open it. Quite annoying.

I have tried changing the configuration to other emu profile, changing theme, etc. but this just doesn't work ok. Some ideas?

Try disabling the emu databases for the non working emus...

For the freezing it may be that the rom is large andits taking some time un unmerge thewhole set before it plays. Some n64 roms a 30 mb and if you have 6 or so dumps thats 180 mb it needs to unzip before it will play... So gameex may not be freezing at all...

Thats why I go with a No-Intro rom set. Anyways Can youtry the above and maybe post your gameex log so we can see your system specs... I have a feeling you have a low end processor like a celeron.

If you do, I could upgrade you to a P4 2.4GHz 800Mhz FSB fairly reasonably...assuming your mother board would support it. ;)

Ok.

First, the freeze it's not when uncompressing the rom but when listing all the rom names that are in the rom folder.

I have tried disabling databases, erasing all bad paths that importing an emulator config had left, etc. And it sitll doesn't detect that roms are goodmerged for some emu and it still freezes.

I have upload a log of a session that froze when trying to list master system roms. It also shows that my computer is not the latest one but it's still good enough (it's an amd san diego 3700 + 1024 MBs ram +7800gtx).

Thanks

Can you export and post the config. Maybe your 7zips are corrupt in some instances, can you try to narrow it down to a particular circumstance when it happens ad when it doesnt, that would help.

Hi.

I have tried to narrow it but I can't find the exact conditions (I am a programmer too so I know how annoying this random failures are). What I have found is that when gameex doesn't detect a rom as goodmerged the Unzipped7-Zip under that rom path is "blocked" (i can't delete it manually) by "something".

As for the random freezes when loading the rom list, I haven't found nothing that prevents it. I have even tried using a .map but sometimes it still freezes.

PD: OfflineList dats and snaps doesn't work with goodmerged roms? Because they don't show and the names are the same (the one in the .dat and .map)

Just a though but is your hard disk having issues? also if you have explorer open on the extracted folder it will cause problems.

I have restarted the computer so the Unzipped7-Zip wasn't blocked anymore and the first rom I tried unmerged ok. After that all did wrong and gameex didn't detect the roms inside 7zip anymore (until I restart again I suppose)

Disable this

That didn't help. It also seems that it's a problem with the first rom that it's unmerged. It then creates the 7zip uncompress folder and it is left blocked. So every other rom that is in that dir can't be decompressed anymore. Roms in other folders work ok until I reset the computer and then process begin again, blocking the console roms that i tried to load first.

Like I said before if you have the rom folder open in explorer at the same time it will cause problems.

This may not even make sense (disclaimer)

Is your rom folder write protected? Maybe it lets Gameex add the temp folder, but once it's there, it won't let Gameex overwrite it?

I am not at home to check it, but it should be impossible to even create the temp folder on a read only folder

I am running windows 2000 on this computer. I created a folder on the desktop, and write protected it. Then I created another folder inside of it (so far so good). I put a text file inside the second folder. I write protected that file.

I made a copy of that file, and placed it on the desktop. I then dragged the file on top of the old one. It asked me first, but it did overwrite it. I tried a bunch of different things, and everytime I was able to replace the write-protected file/folder with a new one. When I was done, I dragged the main folder to the recycle bin, and deleted it!

What I'm trying to say is that you are right, windows doesn't care what I do to write-protected files/folders!
