Howdy. I'm a newly registered user (setting up an HTPC). Best software money I have ever spent. From the beginning, I had in my head that the best solution for an (Windows-based) HTPC remote would be the ATI Remote Wonder. Since I already had one that came with an AIW card I bought a few years back, it was my first choice for input. When it comes to running Windows and most of the applications I have tested, the remote functions fully as a mouse & functions as a keyboard at the same time (i.e. if I open notepad, I can use the # keys to type 1-9, up-arrow, down-arrow, hit Enter, trigger keyboard events from the programable buttons, etc), but, once in GameEx, it's as though it detects the mouse only functions of the remote (minus scroll, just left & right click & analog-direction). I would love to be able to scroll through menus with the up and down (or assign PgUP PgDN), hit Escape, Enter and so on, and it seems like it should work, but, just doesn't. I'm not sure if I have my input options set incorrectly (I have noted several places in the GameEx configuration where it references turning on and off mouse/keyboard/joystick input functions). Maybe I just need the right ATIRW plugin (I have experimented with a few for other or open-ended applications, but, no success)? Anyone have any suggestions? (again, I have the original Remote Wonder, I'm runninng XP Pro and plan to upgrade to GameEx 9.3 when I get home) Thanks!

I don't know about the plugin you are talking about as I have never used that remote. If you can't get it working natively, I highly recommend using an AHK script to remap the remote's output to keys that GameEx recognizes. If you get to that point and need help, let us know and someone can give you a hand.

Thanks for the quick reply.

The plugin that I had the most hope for was the RW Keymaster (here is a link to The Green Button where someone has dialed in a setup one of these with MCE 2005). http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/thread/45129.aspx It seems like what I need (allowing you to assign any key to virtually any function), but, the buttons outside of the mouse just don't seem to respond, no matter what function I assign.

I have also seen a list of application-specific plug-ins at: http://remotew.free.fr/plugins.htm

Just wondering if anyone knew the best configuration for this setup.

For future reference (probably one for the too obvious to mention category), the issue was related to "Enable Keyboard Directimp" and/or "Enable Custom Keyboard." For some reason, I had both set to "Yes" and with either one of them enabled, the remote doesn't function as a keyboard. With those options turned off, the remote works extremely well with just the native ATI software. Adding AHK to the arsenal is going to make it even better (once I spend a little time & figure out AHK/WinLIRC). Thanks for the advice!
