Been having trouble with several ini files and have after playing with them all day and have found the culpuit. If i Have anytging but a blank space in my ini file in the box for zip/7zip. My games won't work. makes no different if the game have native zip support or not. Even my Intellivission roms which aren't zipped, if i have the box marked yes or no it won't work. Soon as i leave the box blank they then will allow me to click them.

Have zipmany on my computer. When I click the game to play with the box checked yes or no. GameEx creates a folder in the rom directory called "Unzipped7-Zip". At that point the game will run from that point. You can run that game only one time. When you exit GameEx it leaves the folder with the unzipped game. Unless you manually delete the folder you can't pick a new game or even run the old one. Once you delete the foldier you can run one gane one time.

Im sorry, but I cant duplicate any of your issues. So dont really know what to suggest.

Tom I was thinking you could redirect the output of the 7Zip unzipper to some log file so it can be checked for any errors when running it from GameEx. It might help track down this problem.

This is all tested using having the zip box checked yes

Have narrowed down even further. Map files and databases work fine. I have been tetsing it with the Mattel Intellivision emulator Nostalgia which does not play zips. If I use as my rom filter *.zip, GameEx will display all the roms in the directory just fine. When I click a game it goes to the next screen(play game, snap title etc.. But I can't click the play game.

If I use as my rom filter *.int, (The extension of the unzipped game) GameEx will display all the roms in the directory just fine. When I click a game it goes to the next screen(play game, snap title etc.. But I can't click the play game. But Below everything (play game, snap etc.) but before info, I have another line showing the unzipped name of the game. That line I can click and play the game. The first line which is the exact same name as the line further down will not accept the click.

Thats actually how it is supposed to work at the moment.

Not sure its the exact same problem but I'm finding that any game that I have 7z'ed will not work. They used to work and I haven't changed anything.

When I select a game from the list, instead of going to the info screen where I would pick the version of the rom I want (mario (u) ) it just crashes. When I go look in the rom folder, I have the Unzipped7-Zip folder and inside I see the right roms, BUT the file size is always 1kb! For some reason they aren't extracting completely.

I installed the newer version of 7zip (even though I think Game Ex uses its own version, and it did nothing. Could this be a bug with the newer GameEx Update that included something about zipped roms? I haven't used my CAB in a few months but have kept updating it So I'm not sure which update might have done this.

***Just tried to extract the roms outside of Gamex and then selected that same game from inside gameex, and it worked! so its definetly something to do with Gameex not extracting the roms properly. Also when i exit the game and then go try it again it dosen't work and the roms are back to 1kb***

(I'm in arcade mode so I'll be asking all kinds of things... sorry in advance)

Id export and post your config, but the thing I would look at is your rom filter.

My rom filter is blank but that has always worked, and it still does work when I extract the files outside of gameex. Its only when GameEx tries to extract the roms that they come out at 1kb where as manually doing it gives me the correct file sizes.

The sequence is;

I select Nintendo 64

then I see the list of games (goodmerged)

I select a game

then it crashes instead of going to the next page where it would usually list the different roms with the little flag next to them.

The log file says i have a DirectX error but I think thats just because it crashes going form one screen to the next (game list to game info)

This happens with N64, Atari Lynx, and GBA (think that all the only 7zips I have)

(had to change Gameex.ini to Gameex.ini.txt so that I could upload it)

log.txt

GameEx.ini.txt

Does it work if you use the default media center theme?

By the way the 1kb is normal, its supposed to do that, as it just extracts the list of files in the 7zip not the files themselves.

DAM YOU ARE GOOD!!!!

Yup it worked when I changed the theme.

Why is that? What do I have set wrong

I read somewhere that you get the error when the text won't fit into it's box. You can also try running the theme you had in it's intended resolution. It may also help if you allow Gameex to change resolution. I'm assuming that Gameex will switch to the resolution that the theme was designed for, but I haven't tested this.
