hello. i am very frustrated. i have multiple versions command line mame and mame32. all of them are linked to my roms folder (my roms are older - from 2001 era) - and when i run mame32 by itself, it sees all 4000+ available working roms (give or take a few). but when i link to gameex - it sees like 80 games only! there is one case where gameex saw 2000 of the 4000 i have, but still not working like it should! of course my game ex config mame links are all correct and i run the game updater, and still nothing. why is this happening? please help - i want to purchase gameex but i am afraid it wont help... thanks! paul -

ps - do the roms NEED to be inside of the mame folder? i dont think so as long as the mame and gameex links are all correct

well you shoud have your roms in the ROMS folder inthe mame directory... The thing that troubles me is that you have so many multipleversions.

But no info on the build youwant to implment into gameex.

You can start by posting your gameex log and gameex.ini

Things that com to mind are incomplete sets... Clones or other filters... Old versionsof ame that dont generate a gamelist.xml

Too many options... Need more info

And your right.. Buying gameex WONT fix your problem :)

Is it possible that MAME32 doesn't verify that all of the roms are valid? It's possible it sees roms, but that doesn't necessarily mean they work. GameEx checks to make sure that the rom works prior to listing it. After all, what's the point of listing a game that isn't playable. You can turn this off if you want to list everything, but you will have games that break and/or don't play correctly. As Brian said, this is a filter setup question. There are directions in the FAQ stickied at the top of the forum if you want to try enabling everything.

The thing that bothers me is that you have an old romset and a newer version of MAME (from the sounds of it). MAME may play the roms just fine, but some games have been partially redumped over time which means that you may have some incompatible roms now. I would personally suggest running the same version of MAME as your romset. You will have less problems and they will be less confusing problems at that!

I've always just moved everything to the current version at the time when I changed something. In your case, I think there is a program called clrMAMEpro that might be helpful. If I understand it, you can have it scan your set and it will somehow tell you the version of your roms. Then, you could just use the correct version of MAME for the set. You can get old versions at MAMEdevs website if you want the vanilla version. If you use another release, you would need to check the distro's homepage to see if they keep an archive.

Best way is to just rebuild your set to the mame version you're looking to run. I'm not aware of a way for clrmamepro to tell you what your current version of roms are.

Right, you tell CMP where your Mame.exe is, and where your roms are, and it builds whatever roms it can for the version of mame that you have.

Ahhh, I see. I've never used it so I wasn't sure of it's capabilities. I just know it was mentioned last time someone asked the same question.
