I want to edit the datafiles that come with GameEX.

I know how to access them via Microsoft Access, however, how do you add/delete categories? So for example, if I wanted to change FIGHTING to BEAT 'EM UP, how would I do that?

Thanks.

You can use standard Mame32 ini files for creating your own categories. To check out the format take a look at Adultery's favourites pack here

I think he's talking about the Database (.MDB) files for other emulators.

Thanks Stu. I've been using Access for the last hour. I've only managed to change the category of 40 games. Only another 700 to go :(

Are there any good dats already in existence that simplify the games into a handful of categories, like Fighting, Platform etc. I notice the GameEX ones are a little inaccurate and there are too many categories for my liking.

Stu, Do you have a tool to edit existing names, descriptions etc. and to add additional roms.

I have access on my other computer, but sometimes I want to do a quick and dirty add or edit onm my cab. Don't want to add a full blown Access on my cab

Also if a modify a mdb will it get over written when GameEx gets a new version

I don't have a tool to do that, it wouldn't be hard to make but it's just finding the time... I think the databases will get overwritten so if your going to modify any of them you should make a copy of it and call it slightly different and tell your emulator config to use your database rather than the original.
