I know I have seen this before but I have searched the forums every way I can think of.

I never had a problem with the Game exit combo before the week, until I started playing the Marvel fighters. Where oh where is the file where the Up left button 4 5 6 combo to exit the game defined? I have killed my game over a dozen times.

The files you're looking for are in the following folder:

C:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS

Ahhh thank you! much happier!

If I create a new INI in the folder for a function will it be used? Is there a naming convention?

Just copy one of the ones already created, change the settings to your liking, and then name it whatever you want. Then it will be available for selection.

There is a [GAMEPADEXIT] section configured in each ini. I would have to change it in every file to stop the function?

I would just change the way it exits all together so that it will apply to all games. By every file, did you mean game?

Well there is no MAME or MAME32 under CONFIG\EMULATORS\IMPORT-EXPORT

I assumed it is one or more of the files, in the CONFIG\EMULATORS that is being used.

There are 6 mapping exit ini, and a PC mouse, and a Block Mouse Buttons, and several game specific ones.

Is it only reading the one that is prefixed [Mapping On] ?

Is there a document on the file usage rules?

The exit combo doesn't appear for MAME games because you can't use the Advanced Config files for MAME. There is no need for it though, so this isn't a problem. In MAME, you just change the 'UI Cancel' button from 'Escape' to whatever key combo you want (even multiple keys).

The UI cancel IS only Esc, as it should be. BUT the UL456 combo STILL kills mame32 and I cant figure out why!

I updated the 11 INIs in that dir but as you mentioned they have no affect on MAME.

At least I am glad it is not an easy fix that I missed, but I have looked everywhere I can think of.

Stub,

We really have no info on your hardware,,, Is this a joypad? or an IPAC

Alot of IPACs and other have SHIFTED KEYS... EG the hardware has built in key combos to send keys like ESC.

Which is MAMES DEFAULT exit key.

Can you be more specfic about your hardware?

I am using a Ultramarc U360 and its internal support for 7 gamepad buttons.

I was fairly sure It had no keyboard emulation capabilities, but I want through the docs to check. It simply acts as a gamepad and associated buttons.

As for the rest I am running GameEx and Mame32 v123 under XP Media Center.

I am fairly sure it is gameEx terminating mame32. In the FAQ http://www.gameex.net/Support/DefaultContr...61/Default.aspx it lists the default key combo for Exit Game via a game pad as Buttons 4,5,6 with Left-Up.

This has to have driven other players mad? A L M H Kick combo is a staple of several games. I just do it too quickly?

Again, the advanced emulator config files that contain the multi key combo exits do not do anything for MAME. If you want to verify that, move those files to a different directory or just delete them and launch GameEx (make sure no other emulators point to those files or it will likely crash). If you then launch MAME, I'm confident it will not change anything. If you want to try running the same game without GameEx to verify, you can also launch the "Run Last Game.bat" file. It will launch the last game played exactly as it does from GameEx.

I can't think of anything that would cause this exit other than MAME crashing for some reason or your buttons are somehow mapping to a combo MAME itself uses. One thing you could try is using a key sniffing program to tell you what keys are being received by Windows when you hit certain keys on your gamepad. Perhaps something is mapping to 'Escape' for some strange reason.

Do you by any chance have XPadder, Joy2Key, or any other gamepad remapping software running? Perhaps it's kicking in unexpectedly?

If this were a bug in GameEx, I would be very surprised it hadn't been found yet. I'm sure it's something else though...

To add to what bkenobi is talking about download Charprobe (http://www.dextronet.com/charprobe.php) its a very usefull app and tel you what keys are being sent.

Also it really is a good idea to disable any joytkey / xpadder to see if its not the culprit.

Id also be tempted to have you remove (just copy out) your DEFAULT.CFG in the mame config directory to see if its inadvertant mapping.

When run via the Run Last Game bat file or the MAME32 gui it does NOT respond to that gamepad combo. GameEx is trapping the combo and closing mame32.

Also I have not yet installed xpadder. The only odd controller software I have put on are the LCD Topgun drivers.

I tested starting a game from GameEx, Killing the GameEx.exe process and returning to the game and the ul456 combo does Not end mame32.

I also moved all the files in CONFIG\EMULATORS into a sub folder and it still does it.

Can someone with a gamepad device reproduce this for me?

Posted

Well I am thinking this should be a bug report if it should not be closing mame as mame has its own close keystroke config.

Stub,

In C:\Program Files\GameEx\CONFIG\ there is a file called Gameex.ini

Copy it somewhere safe.

There is also a file called Gameex.default.ini Rename it to Gameex.ini (eg take off the .default)

Then setup your mame paths and see if the problem still exists.

If not your fixed. If so you may as well copy back in your old config.

Just to clear this up. That combo is supposed to exit MAME in GameEx. It always has. However in the latest release I have changed the combo to include button 1.

Posted

I used the default ini and only changed the mame path, mame exe, and rom path.

Game ex is still dumping me out?

Is anyone else using a gamepad device and can confirm it exits for them as well?

Ahh you replied as I was testing, thank you. That must be the latest update that is waiting.

Could you put the option in a config file, or is it in one and I am blind?

Thanks
