Found an really odd bug?

I use mame overlay effect files for my mame games to make it look like an actual arcade monitor

So in order to use them in GameEX I added this to my advance mame config for mame options......

-triplebuffer -nowindow -joy -effect scanlines

it works perfectly fine "except" on all the older MAME games that i have in-game artwork like bezels. Games like Galaga, Donkey Kong, Ms.Pac, etc. etc. etc.

what happens is the artwork isnt there at all and its replaced by that default graphics gameex uses on the sides....mame logo on left side and the gameex logo on the right side of the screen and the game in the middle. the mame overlay effect doesnt even show up. "Newer" games with ingame artwork files...like samurai shodown, marvel vs. capcom, etc etc which actually instruction card artwork files not actual bezel "artwork" work just fine.......

so gameex doesnt seem to like the combination of an mame overlay effect file + in game artwork (i think bezels). Older games that i have no in game artwork for the overlay effect shows up just fine....

i believe it's a GameEx bug because the old FE i used to use "Emuloader" this wasn't a problem at all......

any advice? need help!

There's an option to have GameEx use it's own bezel rather than the actual games bezels, I think it's in the Advanced MAME Settings

ok after playing around with this i think something may have happened in the new version of GameEx.

In-game "Bezel" artwork seems to no longer show up at all........i took the effect out of the command line and the bezel artwork still ins't showing up. For games that i have artwork for im getting that default left side mame and right side gamex graphics replacing the games artwork.

this was working just fine a week ago.....

maybe a bug creeped into the new version?

i dont see anything like that in advance mame settings

only think i see is in regular mame settings there is an option:

Use Bezel > use bezel vertical games or dont use bezel

i have mine set to > use bezel vertical games

Are your bezels showing up for you in older games like donkey kong? galaga? etc etc?

do u have the lastest verion of gamex? like i said it was working fine a week ago....until i upgraded i guess. Works just fine outside of gameEx

Try setting that to "Don't Use Bezel" it's referring to the GameEx Bezel not the actual games bezel

My bezels are kinda working in the latest GameEx, they work if I set MAME to use D3D but I need to run MAME in DDRAW mode as I have an ArcadeVGA and there seems to be some sort of bug in MAME that doesn't allow this to work properly

I use D3D mode for MAME and have GameEx set to "Don't Use Bezel" and everything is fine. As Stu said, this setting is for people who want to have a bezel on vertical games but don't have the artwork for it. If you turn on this feature, it displays a GameEx bezel like the one you are describing. Incidentally, if you want to use a single bezel for all vertical games, you can edit that image to whatever you want.

It's possible that it's set to "Use bezel" by default. I don't remember off the top of my head. I don't think it's enabled when you are not registered. If you recently registered your copy of GameEx, that's probably about the time you noticed this situation.
