Hi,

I'm not sure if this is a GameEx Problem or a Mame one, but every once in awhile I find that my custom mapped default.cfg file gets over written with the Mame default keys. Its not a regular thing and I only really notice when I need to play a 2player or more game. I have backup of the file that I just put back but I know this is not something that is normal.

Has anyone ever dealt with this? Everything runs great besides that.

Thanks in advance

It's possible that if you have multiple versions of MAME that you run out of the same directory, you could have a difference in the file structure between them. As a result, the different versions will assume it's corrupt and write the default one in it's place.

I recently had this problem when I inadvertantly was running vanilla MAME and MAME Analog+. I am currently running MAME 0.122 custom compile, but Analog+ hasn't been updated in a LONG time (v0.71 as I recall). The current version of MAME uses an XML style for it's controller files, whereas the really old versions use a binary format (there was an INI type format in between).

Anyway, that's my best guess...

Thanks for the reply. Unfortunately I still havn't figured it out. I don't have any other versions of mame installed. I just upgraded to Mame 0.124u5 and neither this version nor the last has any XML files. All the controls are in CFG format.

I looked through all my setting and everything seems right. In the Mame.ini file it has (cfg_directory cfg) so I don't know why my system isn't using XML files.

It's Tom.

The more hits he gets on the website, the more money he makes. So he messes with our stuff, so that we will keep posting. If you have any pictures of your wife on the same computer as Gameex, I'd move them.

On a more serious note, I know that this is more of a curiousity issue than anything else, but if all else fails, Write Protect!

I've had problems in the past with this kind of thing. I use Mame32, and I would tell it not to check for games on startup, and everytime I started it, the check box would be unmarked, and it would check the file again. Don't know why...probably a bug. You could always Ask at mame devs. But not if your using mame32...

I am having the exact same problem. I haven't been able to track down what is causing it or when exactly it happens.

Urk.. hate having to dig out the keyboard and fix it, it just seems 'wrong'. Not really happy about the idea of blowing away any config changes with an old backup every reboot either.
