Resizing the Game Video Preview Window

Hi,

Has anyone out there successfully resized the little game preview video screen to a larger size? By default it's a too small for my taste. I have registered access to the High Quality set of MAME EMUMovies. Would probably look really good a little larger.....

If anyone out there has done this and if there are any suggestions or hints you could provide would be much appreciated. I saw the video tutorial on the GameEx site of how "i think" you would do it but I'm not too sure....i'll try to follow that but I'm afraid ill break something!

Navigate to your themes folder. Make a Copy of a Theme.. Edit the copy using the included theme editor. If it breaks it. You can always go back to the original..

It is very easy to do using the theme editor, i run mine at 700x700 for the vidsnaps.

open your v2 theme (backed up) in the editor and head to 'layout (Start)' in the templates list and resize the snap window. you may have to move a few other things to keep it tidy, though it does no harm to play.

ok ive been messing around with this and have some questions / problems

i have a computer monitor that runs at 1680 x 1050 resolution

all the themes that use a predefined resolution 800x600 1024 x 768 etc. etc. look really terrible on my machine

all the themes that "aren't" a predefined resolution look fine......but they are all V1 themes....

so i used that conversion utility on the site to convert some of them to V2

problem is when i edit the theme and save it and go into gamex the screen is all like "scrunched up"? hard to explain but suffice it to say it doesnt look right. I was basically just trying to resize the game video preview window to make it bigger.

is it because my monitor runs at a funky resolution?

I think I remember Tom saying something about a maximum resolution, but I don't remember what it was. This may be related to that. I think it was something like XXXXx960 or something, but I could be wrong.

Try editing the theme ini like this

Width=1680

Height=1050

XRESOLUTION=1680

YRESOLUTION=1050

etc.

It works for me..

After you have done this you will need to open it in the editor to move and resize various elements to suit the resolution.

Remember to back up the theme.ini file everytime you make a successful modification.. things can go wrong and gameex will drop out on boot..

Try not to resize anything over the boundrys of the resolution set. If is quite easy to do (the toolbar is one as it is resized by the editor)

yeah i think i tried it that way.....let me go back and try it all over again from scratch. I'm just trying to resize the video preview screen bigger in the dark glossy V1 theme....(has anyone converted all the V1 themes to V2 already and I can just grab it somewhere?

Download the theme pack as it contains a few v2 themes - i used one of them as a starting point!
