MAME Arcade Monitor Effect Files / GameEX

I'm not too sure how many of you guys use these but they are awesome.

My question is in the old FE i used (Emuloader) it was very easy to apply a unique particular effect file of my choosing for any mame game i wanted. Which was very cool...

How do I or would I do this in GameEx? If I can only apply one effect to all the games that's ok....but how would i even do that?

There is no way to do this through GameEx but you can have an individual ini file setup for each MAME game which would easily let you use a different effect for different games, the new ini file doesn't have to contain everything that you MAME.ini file contains it only needs to have the changes so you would just need the line

effect scanlines25x4_j4

or whatever, it'll be a real long process setting it up though as you'll have to manually create them all

Hi Stu,

How and where would i globally apply just 1 effect file to ALL my mame games? i can just choose 1 i really like......

Also, for the suggestion you said about adding the line "effect scanlines25x4_j" for a "particular" game what file exactly would i adding that line to?

In the advanced configuration. goto advancedmame settings.. Add the switch -effects (followed by whatever effect you want)

I'd do it in my MAME.INI file in the root of my MAME directory then for each individual game you will need to make an INI folder and create a ROMNAME.INI file (eg. DKONG.INI for Donkey Kong) which will contain any settings which MAME will know to use instead of what's in the MAME.INI

hey i went in and tried this

Mame Options -triplebuffer -nowindow -joy -effects scanlines

but now my mame games wont launch.....its just goes back to GameEx

did i do this right?

and yes i do have a png named "scanlines" in my artwork folder.....

forget it......its "effect" not "effects"
