I'm looking for a good wireless gamepad to use for my MAME cabinet. Some games just feel better playing with a gamepad instead of arcade buttons, mainly console games. Here's what I'm looking for:

- wireless

- enough buttons to play SNES or N64 (what I play most console-wise), for N64 hoping for 6 buttons on right side for A, B, C buttons

- fully programmable(to map buttons to keyboard buttons, basically hoping to copy keys that my MAME cabinet is mapped to in emulation setups)

- would work right away on PC startup

If anybody has any suggestions they would be appreciated.

I suggest playing console games on a console, and arcade games on a cab. I think you're missing the point.

Just my opinion.

rather than give a smart comment, i will suggest the xbox 360 wireless adapter and controller. Same controller that you get for 360 but with the USB Wireless adapter is awesome! i use it all the time on my setup for console-ish games on my system setup.

another vote for the xbox wireless pad here, it's a great job though I prefer playing console games on my cab with the arcade joystick and buttons

It wasn't meant to be a smart comment. I just feel arcade cabs are for arcade games. They are not designed for long haul console type play.

Like I said, just my opinion.

I remember someone (Nologic i think) suggesting the logitech wireless rumplepad 2 as there was a problem (with xbox 360 controllers) when the controller went into sleep mode (i think thats what the problem was although my recollection is a little vague). Do a search on the forum.

I've heard nothing but good things about the Logitech wireless controllers. I keep saying I'm going to pick up a couple so I can actually play the console games as they were meant to be played, but then I never get around to it. At some point, I'm actually going to get a pair of Logitechs!

You cannot go wrong with Logitech in my humble opinion.

I have a USB->Playstation controller adapter I picked up at Radio Shack for $12. I use it to play my console emulators with my Dualshock and I can even use my Guitar Hero controller with Frets of Fire.

(Personally I believe my arcade cab should be a "one-stop" source of entertainment. Arcade games, console games, jukebox)

Thanks for the replies! I'm going to look into the Logitech controllers and see what I can find.

And as for the consoles on a MAME cabinet thing, to each his own. Personally I like not having a ton of consoles connected to my TV. And having a MAME cabinet sitting 30 feet away, I'd rather play stuff off of that than drag out a bunch of cords and cartridges. That being said, if I had an extra room I'd make it a retro console room ;) .

I have 2 arcades and 2 media type pc's all running Mame and Visa versa.. eg supermario using an IPAC...and I enjoy both. We try to provide a helpfull forum. No matter how I look at it I cannot find your comment helpfull. Not that you are not entitled to your opnion... Hell we're full of them here. But at last provide an suggestion.

It's a valid point.

Apologies if I have upset anyone but I do think you've blown this a little out of proportion. It was a suggestion and an expression of an opinion. Nothing less, nothing more. We don't want this forum to become repressive.

I did add in a later post that I think Logitechs are a good controller. I also added that it's a valid point about the mess issue when having several consoles running though the tv.

It's all good. I did notice your post after I posted. You offered your opnion and I offered mine.

Look Im not looking to take things to extreams. I just want to let you know how I and Im sure the majority poeple here feel.

Dont you hate going into other forums and see a question you would like to know the awnser to and see 15 post of Read rules,What a newb, or other flaming.

We have a great user group here and alot of new users. Id like to believe they keep returning because of the awesome support and Vast knowledge base.

I dont believe they would keep returning if all they read were posts like that.

Please understand were I come from. I understand your point. At this time Id like to believe I made myself perfectly clear.

Please dont take this the wrong way.

Id second on the wireles logitecs. They are great gamepads.

Also.. you can use Xpadder and bind your joystick buttons to keystrokes so you can share one emulator config all across the board.

Iver personally have had issue wireless Saitek pads... So stay away from those... The wired ones are okay tho

I understand and I agree. But I do want to make the point that it was not a flame. My apologies once again if it came over that way.

I did try to 'redeem' myself by adding more positive posts.

Let's move on from this misunderstanding guys.
