24th April, 2008 - MAME Screensaver 0.90

No longer requires admin privileges.

Works on Vista with user account control turned on.

Installs properly on 64 bit Windows.

If upgrading you will need to configure and update list again.

It may install properly on 64-bit Windows, but the installer fails on my 32-bit Windows.

While extracting files, the following error message appears:

"Internal error: Cannot install files to 64-bit locations on this version of Windows."

:(

This is fixed in 0.91, now available.

Thanks for letting me know,

Just want to check something too. When I attempted to set mame.scr as my screensaver for the 1st time, Sygate Personal Firewall gave me a warning that mame.scr was trying to send a packet to ctl.tharte.com. I blocked it, and then every time mame.scr booted my PC was frozen for 30 seconds every time, including accessing the properties window and even selecting "Mame" in my screensaver list. It was not doing that for any other screensaver. During the 30 seconds, my firewall noticed me that it was blocking access to ctl.tharte.com during that time. I checked what would happen if I allowed it only once, and since then no problem. It's no longer even attempting to access the Internet now. I couldn't reproduce it, even by uninstalling and reinstalling the screensaver. Note that I never installed the toolbar.

Is this odd behavior caused by .NET?

Thats because the executable is signed, you know how like when you download exe's from the web, and run them you get published by Micrsofot do you trust this program. Well Thwate provide signing certificates for web sites ie ssl and also for apps. It probably was not too good an idea for me to do that.
