Can you add a configuration option to not have the screen saver turn on if GameEx isn't active? I think this is a bug that needs to be fixed, but others like it this way, so it appears a configuration option would be good.

To describe what happens, if you run GameEx then minimize it, it will sit there waiting for you. But, after the time you set in the config for the screensaver delay, it kicks on the screen saver. When you quit the screen saver it brings GameEx back up into the forground. If I'm working on configuring something, or reading email, I don't want the screen saver to kick in since I'm still using the PC but not GameEx.

It's been discussed in threads, but I don't know if a feature request was ever made...

PLEASE, please, please add the new Model2 engine to GameEx. The new version doesn't seem to work anymore with the built-in code and no longer requires a wrapper. Thanks!

I just want to point out that this has been discussed in the past and there is a reason why a queue like you're talking about has not been included. Basically, the audio and video system in GameEx is designed as a jukebox. In an actual jukebox, someone picks a song and it starts playing. If someone else picks a song, the first one does not stop, the second person has to wait for the first to finish. What you are asking for is a media player. I agree that that would be cool, but that is not what is built-in (currently anyway).

It seems that alot of us are asking for this. Cant it be made an option to switch between "media player" and "jukebox" styles? Shouldnt be too hard. Gameex is so configurable, yet there are so few options for the jukebox portion.

I agree that a media player would be cool! I was just saying that the audio/video jukebox included is designed as a jukebox moreso than a media player. The other thing is that the jukeboxes don't get as much time as the emulator side (from what I gather). Things get worked on just the same, but most comments here are requesting work on other stuff.

Hi Tom. I've noticed of late a few people posting about the way that when in the jukebox if you press a button on your control panel (which you would normally have mapped to a letter on the keyboard) that the view jumps to a song beginning with the same letter as the button is mapped to. I know i've mentioned it a good while ago and you said that although it was not ideal it was the way it worked (or just a side effect - i can't remember exactly). But it is a bit irritating. I know if were an easy fix you'd of changed it but i'd really appreciate it if you would look at it again in the future as i use the jukebox as much as i play games.

Thanks,

iano.

:)

P.S. Thanks for adding the option in the jukebox not to start playing the entire collection.

Funny you should post this now, I nearly implemented an option for that in the last release, as I was trying to address a few irritations people have. Ill try and do it for the next one. It is actually quite easy to add an option for it.

Ben Kenobi's reply from my initial request (above a few posts) which should sum up what some of us are looking for... Basically the ability to just click on a song in the Jukebox and it starts playing instantly instead of the playlist order we have now.

Seems like a simple option to add. I mean you have options in Gameex for everything! This one should be easy (like I know what I'm talking about... )

When you look into this button problem with the jukebox, can you also try to fix it for game selection?

Hey i know there isn't much talk about GoodMerge these days, but a feature that would be really cool for me personally would be the ability to specify a filter for the default rom in a .7z

That way the full list of rom's could still be there, but if you just selected the game title (currently unselectable archive name) it would launch the default (or first to match the filter string). Then Create Snaps would also work for goodmerged sets.

Also, scrolling lines would be nice (some roms have long names and the part at the end can be very important). I would imagine when the line is highlighted after like a 2 second delay it could start scrolling, either that or print the entire line in the title area.

Just some thoughts, not sure if they've been brought up and rejected before (as i'm new to gameex) but they are my requests.

Thanks for the great software!

there has been quite alot of discussion on this... you need to set your rom filer properly.

Request:

Video snap support for "External Apps" aka "More Games & Programs"

EDIT:

this is actually a working feature already :) the help file in the config just had the wrong path listed. after i put the AVI snaps in the right place it worked fine.

also, not sure if this is a feature or bug, but it would be nice if the stock gameex auto-upgrades did not overwrite my PluginUltraStik.ini .... i'd also like it to not overwrite my SetControls.exe since I have a wrapper replacement for that ... but I'd imagine that is a bit of an odd request and I just need to deal with it ... the .INI on the other hand is a bit of a problem since I am basically losing my config on every auto-update.

For those two files, you could set them as read only so that GameEx can't overwrite them. I don't know if that would cause an error, but it would keep you from losing your settings.

btw, I like the idea of expanding support for the built in emulators. I'm guessing that would be a lot of work, so I'm not going to hold my breath.

hi tom i am just wondering if the idea i came up with a year or 2 ago, of a search system is still in the ball ground or it is dismissed all together, im not being trying to be pushy because i know you do spend a hell of a lot of your time on this project ,just wondering if it is still in thought,as most of us dont notice the bug fixes wich do take up the most of your time ,but we do notice visual changes and that is the main reoson we download new updates,,

sorry for sounding so pushy mate,,

Okay while updating my 3DO Import INI aka profile...I noticed a bug when importing it into the Advanced Config application.

Original line content

Command="[APP]\CONFIG\Loaders\Freedo_Loader.exe"

What appears after import

[APP]\CONFIG\Loaders\Freedo_Loader.exe

As you'll notice its missing the required double quotes...doubling up on them may very well hide the bug...but not solve it.

NL,

Unfortunatly the quotes do have to be doubled up.

When the Windows API INI reader reads the string it automatically remove the quotes. So there removed before my code even sees it.

So basically you need the double quotes.

However if everything is working as it should when you export a config it SHOULD export with double quotes.

The only souldtion to this would be to code an ini class that does not use the windows API. I may well do that at some point. I was going to leave that until I look again at doing a linux or Mac port of GameEx.

Cheers.

Actually, that's something that's been requested several times, but isn't possible at the moment. Now that I think about it, I just had a friend over last weekend and when they were done with the machine, they couldn't figure out how to turn it off because the "turn off machine" item was on a different page and since there's no real queue to tell people that there's multiple pages, he had no idea he had to scroll. He ended up hitting quit a bunch of times until he gave up. If I had an "Emulator" menu, it would be a bit cleaner. Perhaps at least having something that tells people visually that there's more above/below (like grayed out scroll arrows)?

As far as having to scroll so many pages, can't you just hold the alpha/page button before you press up/down? Maybe you're using a remote so you can't use multiple keys. If so, assign a page up/down button (for example if there's an up/down arrow and channel up/down, use channel as paging). Just a thought.

Yes I can page through the list but my problem is essentially the same as your friend had. You have to know it's there before you can use it. Right now looking at my start page any0one would think theres nothing there but games. If it isnt possible that's ok, I can live with renaming Emulators and Multimedia to Games (there are pc titles there too) and "Music and Video"

I like to run GameEx in a window, yet everytime there's an update, this field gets set back to Full Screen.

Request: That on installation/updates, the option for window/full screen does not get overwritten.

Thanks~

Seriously, this is annoying....

I updated to 9.12 today, and my PluginUltrastik.cfg has been replaced with the standard one. Now I have to re-do it to enable the custom maps that I have been using. I can't tell you what else is wrong, but is this necessary?

If there is a good reason for it, is there a guide somewhere for updating?

If there isn't a guide, I can feel another project coming on....

Will somebody give me the full story on this?

Maybe a new topic should be started.
