I think (although i'm not 100% sure) that you should run soft-15khz while you have a standard pc monitor connected and configure it there because if you connected an arcade monitor before doing this it's unlikely the arcade monitor will be able to sync to the graphics card.

:)

EDIT: Brian bet me to it !

cool- is it ok to run 15hz to my LCD? - I dont have a regular PC monitor :(

I don't think there's much of a difference (worth talking about). I honestly don't think you'll damage your lcd monitor by doing this. Worse case scenario is your lcd monitor won't be able to sync to it and you'll get no picture.

What happened? I installed it without ANY trouble at all in my laptop btw using the built in LCD. Just set your screen to 640x480 before hooking it up to the cabinet and things should work.

If you are using a dell pc i'd knock the arcadevga card idea on the head. I got a dell pc out of work and had no joy getting it to work with an arcadevga card. This is a known issue with dell pcs. I wouldn't want you wasting your money. It may work but i don't think it's worth the risk. I have ordered an ati card for my dell pc and i'm hoping it will work but i have no guarantees (it was £20).

I hope that PC was cheap. You seem to be spending a lot of time buying cards, RMA'ing them, etc to end up with an old PC running something most video cards can run. Just throwing it out there, but have you considered building/buying a new machine? I don't know anything about what you are running, but if it's giving you the blues now, who's to say it won't continue to even after you sort out the video card issue?

As far as the error, did you google it? I had this error way back when as far as I can recall, and the message means that you have a driver confict. If you have an onboard video card, have you tried disabling it? Try uninstalling ALL video card drivers completely and restarting (make sure you have drivers available on restart to make reinstall easier). When I disabled the onboard video card, this error disappeared and has never returned.

I dunno

I bought this machine specifically for this arcade cab - was told it would do great...

its P4, 2.8 ghz, 160HD, 1 gig ram..

Can't really afford another PC ( wife would KILL me - no really, she would !!!)

so I will step down to a 128MB card and see if I can get it to work (sigh)

I will place an order from newegg today and let you guys know the results.

Once again thanks for taking the time to help me here - I know I am a PITA and I really appreciate you guys helping me.

It's no problem. Figuring out how to get everything working is half the fun. I've actually spent exponentially more time building and tweaking than I have playing games...and it doesn't bother me one bit!

Actually, those specs aren't bad and should run MAME just fine (except for the few outliers like Seattle based roms). Yeah, just get a video card to play nice and you should be good to go.
