Hi there,

I wondered if anyone could help me. I have just put Gameex in my arcade cab. Instead of using mame32 I decided to you standard mame (mame.exe) because I can use the compiler to get rid of the messages. However I am not sure what command-line options to put into GameEx to get it to run.

The arcade monitior can display anything up to 640x480 (anything more and I get an out of range message). I can get Gameex to run but when it runs a game it looks like it closes the gameex windows then it reappears again .Or I get and out of range message. I think I need the command-line for stretch resolution to fit maybe but I dont know what it is. If there is anyone out there with a similar setup could you please let me know how you have yours set up.

Thanks

J.

All your custom settings are controlled in the MAME.INI file - edit that to get mame running the way you want (full screen, using artwork, cheats etc). The commadn line can then jsut say "mame.exe"

Not strictly required...

You can either set everything you want via the command line OR via the MAME.ini file. I personally prefer using the ini file to set everything up and have a clear command line that only sends the name of the rom. Of course, it's up to each user which way they want to go.

Thanks for the mame.ini advice. I am a bit of a noob when it comes to using vanilla mame having used mame32 for so long. I have got mame running in Gameex now but i have encountered another problem. All the vertical games are running sideways. Does anyone know which option in the mame.ini I need to change.

I have a version of mame32 running on the cab aswell and it plays all the vertical games properly rotated for a horizontal monitor. I know i am missing something simple I just cant see what it is. Any help would be greatly apprieciated.

Thanks

I don't know for sure, but it might be

-[no]autoror - "Automatically rotates the screen clockwise for vertical games."

or

-[no]autorol - "Automatically rotates the screen anti-clockwise for vertical games."

Do you know if there is an option to display all games vertically on a horizontal screen like mame32 can. The autoror and rol options do rotate the screen but for example 19xx currently displays with the top of the screen to the right so with autoror on the picture then becomes upside-down. I am sure I am missing something really obvious here I just cant see what it is in the mame.ini.

Thanks again

P.S. I am using a compiled version of mame. Is it possible that I screwed something up when compiling?

P.P.S. Where does the hiscore.dat need to be placed with a compiled version of mame? It dosent seem to be working for me either.

I know that you can adjust this setting inside MAME for each game by hitting 'TAB' and going to 'Video Options'. There's a rotation setting there. I know there's a way to set your monitor as vertical or horizontal, but I don't know what it is at the moment.

My first thought is that it should work the way you want by default, so if it isn't I suspect you have edited the MAME.ini. If you can't find the setting to change, just rename the file and start from scratch. It doesn't take that long and will probably get you where you want faster. You can use your current one as a reference for what you want to change.

If I remember right, Bkenobi told me in another thread, that you can just use your mame.ini from your mame32. Just set it up in mame32, then copy it and use it in vanilla mame (is that right BK?)

That doesn't work exactly... There are some special settings that MAME32 uses that vanilla MAME doesn't use. You could try that, but I don't know if it would work. I know for sure it wouldn't work the other way, but it's more likely to work this way (MAMEUI.ini -> MAME.ini). Minimally, you could compare the contents of the files and see what the differences are. Perhaps you will be surprised and find the setting that's different by comparing the two!
