Hey Brian, BK and all.

Im still seeing a lot of the same old questions asked on the forum over and over again, some of them are already in the FAQ, but not all.

I know I've been doing support longer than anyone here so it probably gets to me most ;) It may not bother you guys too much. I dont know.

But if you think anything should be added to the FAQ please add it to the sticky on the forum, thats what its meant for, then Ill update the site.

And if you can lay it out in Q. A. format as on the main site, that would be awesome.

Thanks.

Tom

PS Feel free to direct folks to the FAQ when needed, it really should not have to be rude to do that, and as always if I myself can do anything better please let me know.

Will do.. It seems it comes in waves... A few people want the same thing in a matter of days.. Then its quiet... Then again.. It always does seem the same question was answerd before..

I actually can think of a few repeat offender Q&A so I may take a looksey when I can motivate myself.. Im feeling a little lazy ;)

:) No worries Brian, you deserve a rest. I would not ask, its just one of those things that could actually save us all time.

It is odd that we seem to get the same question 2 or 3 times in as many days and typically each in their own thread. The part I find funny is that half the time, they start off by saying "I searched but couldn't find an answer" when it's only 10-15 threads down

Tom,

I had made mention before that I think the FAQ's should be at the top of the "stickied list", the last time I checked, it was #11.

Yeah thats come to my mind first.. I didnt realize that was in the FAQ.... Goes to show you how much I payed attention to the FAQ on the main page. ;)

Actually tho I do use the command lines for gameex to use alternate configs... Are there antother CLI options you have up your sleeve?

No there's no other command line options, what did you have in mind? Or where you just asking?

In terms of the alternate config one, I think its just as easy to install another copy of GameEx. Thats what I tend to do.

Not sure really.. I just like messing with stuff. gameex can already do everything.. Except make my coffee...

There we go how about this "Gameex.exe -Makemycoffee" switch.

Then perhaps a Gameex.exe -getmybeer switch.

Oh ya and the infamous Gameex.exe -pickwinninglottonumbers switch

That will do it I think... Perhaps I should add theses to the feature request sticky :)

Yeah, I really think "GameEx.exe -getmybeer" needs work. It keeps crashing when I try it, just like my wife (well, that's more of a verbal failure message actually). :P

One of the most common errors I see is the DirectX error when using certain themes. What is that anyway?

I noticed the error log outputs some suggestions when it happens, maybe they should be in the FAQ too?

We should have something in the FAQ about how GameEx knows when a game is finished. There have been a bunch of threads dealing with loaders and the fact that when it launches the game to a new process and quits, GameEx takes back focus thinking the game is over.

Good idea.. Write it up and Ill stick it in there. Then Tom can update the main page. :)

Q: I launch XXXX using YYYY as a loader. When the game starts, the screen goes black I can hear the audio in the background but GameEx pops back up. What's going on?

A: When GameEx launches a game (Arcade/Console ROM, PC Game/Application, etc.), it keeps track of the process that was spawned. When that process ends, GameEx assumes that the you are done playing that game and it's time to return to the front end. The problem is that if a loader is used to launch a game (Daphne Loader is a classic example), that process launches the actual game in a new process and closes. The expected result is that the game is playable. However, GameEx doesn't know anything about the new process. The solution is to either launch the game directly without the loader or modify the loader, if possible, to stay active until the game has closed.

Actually just so you know, there is a solution in GameEx to use loaders.

What you have to do is use an advanced emulator config file, and set the wait for process to the actual game process name.

The other soution if you still want to use the loader is a little more complex. You need to create an advanced emulator configuration ini file and specify it for use with the emulator. Copy an existing one and in the wait for processes section specify the process name of the actual game (this is the name that shows under processes in task manager). This tells GameEx not to exit until the actual game process has finished.

Cool Ill update the FAQ thread.
