I was wonder if any of you have experience with setting up multiple gamepads for use with mame. I have 2 wireless Game Elements "PS2 style" game pads and one strait USB connected GameFactory "PS2 style" gamepad. I have my PC display cloned to my flat screen and I like to us GameEx as my all in one console.

My question is that I am having trouble programing all three pads to be used with mame under first, second, and third player. Player one by default works fine except that it also controls player two half the time, ditto if I have the player 2 gamepad turned on. I try to manually set the gamepad inputs in Mame via the tab key but I get two proplems. First when I set them It keeps holding on to the prior config so I get "Player One left is Joy1 -x or joy1 +x or joy1 +x or joy1 -y or joy1 +x or joy1 +x or joy1 -y..." ect ect ect. Second, even if I do somehow get the controls configured, it does not save my input setting once I leave the game.

Does anyone know how I can get 3 gamepads to work for three players with mame and to have them stay working once I leave the game?

Thank you!

If the gamepads report to the computer as the same device, then you will have problems. The first thing you need to do is go to the Game Controller Manager in the control panel and verify that each controller shows up, it controls correctly in windows, and it does not control other devices also. Once you have that straightened out, you will need to set them up in MAME. Start a game and hit 'TAB'. Go to general controls. Now, the best thing to do is to go through and change all controls for each player that you want to control via a gamepad to 'NONE' first. Go to each control and hit select ('Enter' by default) and then 'Escape'. To set the control, simply go to the command in MAME you want to edit and hit select and press the button you want to use to control it (Gamepad 1, button 1 for example). This is standard and there are tons of guides for this step. Just make sure that things work in Windows first.
