I don't know if this is a bug or not but.... I have an X-Arcade and am using the default button mappings. Player 1 button 2 is left alt. Just like it is by default in Mame. When playing games Mame will sometimes just go to a black screen. I can still hear the audio but no video. I can't get the video to come back by doing alt tab or any other key combination. Only thing I can do is hit Esc and go back to GameEx. I have determined that its related to the Left alt key. If I get my keyboard out I can reproduce the problem by holding down left alt for 5 seconds or so. Obviously this doesn't happen when running Mame stand alone. Only happens when running Mame through GameEX. This only started for me when I switched to a new PC running XP. Never happened with my Win2K PC. Can anyone out there reproduce this issue? I don't really feel like reprogramming the XArcade to not use left Alt. But I guess I have no choice.

Take a look in Accessability options in Control Panel and make sure StickyKeys is switched off. If that is turned on holding down ALT will show it's screen.

Yeah sticky keys is off. I can reproduce the issue by holding down alt but when it happens when playing a game its random. Just goes black but always after pressing P1 B1 which is left Alt. It's definitely an alt key issue. I have tried and can now reproduce the issue just by pressing alt several times. Has nothing to do with holding down the key, just alt itself. I have seen another post where this was happening and doesnt look like they resolved the issue either. This really stinks. Maybe I'll try loading Win2K on this PC and see if it has something to do with XP. I'm guessing no but who knows.

Pressing ALT should definately not cause the problem your experiencing. My guess is you have another button stuck down as ALT plus certain keys can do all sorts of things (Eg. Alt-Tab). I would check your wiring and also find a KeyCode program (like the one in GameEx's utilities section) and see if there is some key playing silly buggers.
