Hi Tom,

I have recently upgraded again and my GameEx lock-up problem has arisen again. This happened a few days ago and the problem disapeared on it own. This time I dont seem to be able to fix it.

I have posted my config. Could you or anyone else on this board take a look at it and see what I have setup incorrectly.

Cheers

J.

P.S. Ignore some of the emulator configs a lot of them dont work at the moment. I have just put them in so I dont have to reorder them later. Unless of course it is one of these that is causing the problem.

P.P.S. I had to transfer my config to notepad before I could post it . Is this correct or am I doing something wrong there too.

I cant see anything off hand. Can you please post your log after a freeze, so I can see where GameEx is failing hopefully. Also does the locup happen every time, or under certain circumstances? If it happens after saving the config, check your MAME version.

Thanks.

One thing I did notice is your creating snap images on a thread. Try turning this off, it could well be buggy.

Hi Tom

I get this crash problem everytime. I have turned off creating images in a thread. It loaded, then I selected a game. But when I quit back to GameEx it locked up again. All that Task Manager tells me is that it is using 100% CPU Usage and that GameEx isnt responding.

My log file is attached

Does this happen with MAME and all emulators or just FCEU?

I notice you saved the configuration before running GameEx in that log, is that related to the problem?

No it is all emulators. The only reason the log was saved was because I changed the 'Snap images on a thread' option before I Launched GameEx to test if it worked. I havent tried all emulators but all the ones i have tried have done it so far.

Also you dont need to go into an emulator for it to happen. Sometimes it will lock up almost as soon as the GameEx intro has disappeared. The reason the log shows that I used FCEU is because it didnt lock straight away so I just loaded a game and quit to test if it had worked.

Please replace GameEx.exe with the attached debug version, get it to freeze, and post the log.

Thanks.

Hi Tom

This is the log file after a freeze using the debug GameEx. I couldnt get task manager to appear after the lock up. So this may not be the whole file as I had to turn of my computer to unlock it.

J.

Whoops. That didnt work. I will try attaching it again.

Thats cvery strange.

Right first, try disabling the Game pad, see if that makes a difference.

Second run GameEx in a window to see if there are any dialogs or errors showing up. I know its crashing, so to get it to run in a window, go into the the GameEx.ini go down to [internal] and Set Windowed=True.

let me know.

Hello Again Tom

I have upgraded to 4.89 and switched off the joypad. This seems to do the trick. The only thing I have noticed now is that GameEx seems to run a little smoother in windowed mode. This is noticable when i choose my emulators option from the first menu (possibly because I have 43 emulators setup). I will try to explain what I mean.

When you boot up GameEx(Full Screen) the Bar that highlights the option you are currently on is animated (moves gently up and down). When I go into any of the options from the front page it thens slows down. It seems to stutter quite a bit (particularly in the Emulators section of my setup). I am wondering if there is something in my config that is slowing GameEx down at that point (possibly what was causing it to completely stop in the last few versions). But this is trivial. So far no crashes which is excellent. As long as it is running again that is fine by me.

Thanks again for your support Tom.

J.

P.S. A donation will be heading your way at the start of next month :D
