I'm getting down to finalizing my mame cabinet soon, and just have the video card and display left to go.

I know people swear by the ArcadeVGA card is the way to go in order to get native resolutions. But I am curious on how it actually performs with 1993+ games and CHD files. I'm kind of stumped on the way to go because I do want a cab that is able to handle newer games than Ms. Pacman, such as N64 emulation and pinball games.

I use a standard TV and the SVIDEO out from my geforce... It works well for everything... And I didnt have to spend a fortune :)

ArcadeVGA supports 640x480 and 800x600 so it works fine for newer system like N64, you have to have a mulit sync monitor that supports these as well as the low res modes though which makes them dearer, I have a Polo start which has can handle 640x480, the Wells-Gardner D9200 is another, probable better option, as it also supports 800x600 but I couldn't get it shipped to the UK

I believe the ArcadeVGA also suports 640x480 and 800x600 interlaced mode which works on any old arcade monitor but interlaced doesn't look as good as progressive, especially when displaying text but I reckon it would be more than exceptable as TV's are interlaced and text looks fine on them

Just curious but is there an advantage to using the ArcadeVGA card if you are going to use anything other than an arcade monitor (TV, PC monitor, LCD, etc)? If not, then I would worry about finding the display first and the card second. Those arcade monitors are nice, but if you want a big one, it will cost you big time! Seems to me that you should work your budget on the display and let that dictate the card.

Now, if you already chose to go with an arcade monitor, then I don't think you have much of a choice at this point. You either go with an ArcadeVGA card, or you have to hack an input from a VGA cable using one of the online guides.
