Game save state question

Hey guys, this may be a little off topic, but how would you enable MAME to save state when you exit through GamEX. Basically I would like to keep the high scores when exiting. BTW I am running MAMEUI32 and an x-arcade tankstick in my cab.

Map the same key to save state as the key you use to exit mame.

That would make it a race to see whether the emulator can save before GameEx kills the process...

Well Mames default escape key is ESC which is UI CANCEL. Im not sure if Gameex by default maps the ESC key to kill the mame process. I guess we will have to find out.

I thought Mame used to do this without any hassle?

I have Autosave turned on in my mame.ini and it used to be everytime I went into a game like Galaxian, there would be a message at the bottom saying something like "state successfully loaded" but I've just noticed that now when I go into those games which had my high scores saved they all say "Error: Failed to load state"

Anyone any ideas what I've done to mess it up?

I don't know if it's something you've done necessarily. I had mine set up that way too and it also used to work, but now it doesn't. My guess is that applying the hiscore patch broke it, or the MAMEDEV team decided to stop supporting it.

I solved my problem, I was looking in the save state folder and I noticed as well as folders for a lot of games there was also files named after the game but with no extension so when Mame was trying to make a folder for dkong windows wasn't letting it as there was already a file called dkong, I deleted all these files and now there is bliss in the world again lol

If saving scores is all you want the save states for then trade MAMEUI32 for MAMEUI32FX. It has support for hiscores.dat plus many other wonderful trinkets.
