Hello all. Just curious if the mapfiles were removed for example Vivanonno? Just wrote a new loader for it with AutoIt and will release within next few days. While testing my loader I pointed vivanonno to the map file I found in the MAP FILES Directory and It exists yet when I verify settings through GameEx Setup Wizard I get an error that it doesn't.

Seems to be working in GameEx but In GameEx Setup Wizard it seems that it's not getting verified because it has a double extension.

For example:

System Name.map.map

Seems to be working in GameEx but In GameEx Setup Wizard it seems that it's not getting verified because it has a double extension.

For example:

System Name.map.map

I had a problem similar to this one, while setting up Zinc. I had a renderer.znc that I was supposed to move over and rename with a .dll (If I remember right...might have been.cfg) extension. For some reason my computer wouldn't recognize the new extension. By that I mean that the icon for the new file didn't match the icons for other files with the same extension. Also, they were not recognized by ESPXE as a plugin. I'm running Windows XP pro, and file extensions never show on my computer, sytem name.map shows as system name. The only way I can tell what it is, is either by the Icon, or holding the cursor over the file.

I solved my problem by downloading the plugin myself, but I would think that you could fix your problem by dropping the .map extension from the file, because if you are having the same problem as I am, your computer already recognizes it as a map file, and thinks that the file is named "System Name.map" (I hope that makes sense)

The only thing I don't understand is why Gameex is recognizing them unless it thinks the file name is "Sytem Name.map" also.

So, to make a short story long, try dropping the extension, and if that doesn't work you could install gameex to a new directory, and copy the map files over, Or I (or someone) could upload the map files for you.

Does anyone know why this happens, or how I can get my computer to show extensions? I have the view set up as "show details" and there is an option to choose what details, but file extension isn't one of them.

Thanks Tempest but not really what the problem is. Map files can not be verified with GameEx Setup Wizard.

Again it gives a double extension.

Example:

emulator.map.map

So that when I point to a map file it says it does not exist when it does.

Headkaze? Maybe something in the coding? No big deal. Is purely cosmetic. It works just doesn't verify.

Yup that would be a bug in the Setup Wizard. Tom only just recently added a new folder inside GameEx that can contain Map files. Great idea actually to have them all in the same place. I just haven't got around to updating the "Verify Setup" to check that folder for the map files. Should only be a five minute job so no biggie.

Cool! Thanks! Thought I was loosing my mind and doing something wrong. Thanks for the info. And yes! Great place to have in folder and just noticed it when I was pointing to my own map folder. Thanks for that Tom!

Can NOT run roms when map file is used. So is this a GameEx issue? Thought it was cosmetic till today when I couldn't run the files with map file. Any ideas?

generall your folders need to be named the same as the roms

eg.. c:\myroms\snes\mario\mario.nes

"[rompath]/[rom]/[romfile]"

What folders do you mean Brian?

Ran my log file and it seems that game ex is running the map rom name.

For example:

Running: cmd.exe /c C: vivanonno_wrapper.exe Ridge Racer (Japan-A)

instead of

Running: cmd.exe /c C: vivanonno_wrapper.exe rr1

I thought map files were just a more readable name from the original rom name in GameEx. Doesn't rename the actual rom. When using map files this shouldn't be happening right? Never had this problem before.

Nevermind All. It stopped working for VivaNonno for me because I pointed to the new Map file instead of the one I created. The Map file in the New MAP FILES Directory was incorrect. It reads like this.

Ridge Racer (Japan-A)|Ridge Racer (Japan-A)

Ridge Racer 2 (Japan-A)|Ridge Racer 2 (Japan-A)

Ridge Racer 2 (Japan-B)|Ridge Racer 2 (Japan-B)

Rave Racer (Japan-A)|Rave Racer (Japan-A)

Rave Racer (Japan-B)|Rave Racer (Japan-B)

Rave Racer (World-B)|Rave Racer (World-B)

Now I know why it was trying to launch the real name instead of the rom name according to the known dat. Sorry! Should have looked into the map file to begin with. Thought it was a bug. LOL. Although still a bug in Setup Wizard. But know headkaze will fix that soon. ;)
