I did a complete re-install of Gameex, and Mame, And now I can't get my custom maps to work for my U360. I am using Oqqalz's plugin, I have downloaded it again, disabled, and re-enabled the plugin with the plugin manager. I made sure I had the latest firmware for my U360. (I know, I know, but I'm grasping at straws ;) )

BTW, Ultimarc now has new firmware for shifted buttons for you users who have buttons attached to their U360.

I quadruple checked my pluginultrastik.cfg (I just moved it over from my old directory) My custom maps are in the plugin folder (joy4way.um, JoyD4way.um,etc.) I just went through this a month ago and I'm (almost) positive I know how to do this....WTF? (that's how I spell help!)

Tempest,

I know this doesn't help your situation. But what are the advantages of using ultrastick 360(s) over the likes of optical joysticks?

Well without investigating what other sticks can do, and to add that I think the U360 is optical (without investigating that either)

The U360 is programmable. It can be 2 way horizontal, 2 way vertical, 4way, 4way diagonal, 8way, analog, mouse pointer, or pretty much anthing else you want it to do. It comes with pre-made maps, but you can edit your own maps setting any location in a 9x9 grid to anything you like. Literally anything! So you could make a map where up and down were digital (contact closure), and left and right were analog (incremental). Don't ask me why you would do this, but you could. ;)

Using Oqqalz's plugin, it reads the info. from the mame controls.cfg, and reprograms the stick "on the fly" when you choose a Game in Gameex. (Just one more reason to use Gameex). So if you are playing pac-man, you are using a 4 way stick, Want to play Loderunner? - 8way, Starwars? - Analog (the further you push the stick the farther the crosshairs move.) So all in all its pretty neat.

One problem for sure - Mame devs. changed something awile back, and now the included 4way diagonal map doesn't work properly, Again it shouldn't be a problem. All you have to do is make a custom map, tell pluginultrastick that you want to use it for Congo Bongo, and Q*bert, and it should handle it. It will also handle different maps for different emulators.

However, right now I can't get the plugin to recognize my custom maps! (AAAGHHHH!)

Just giving it a "bump"

I've found that on some machines, USB devices can stop working for basically no reason at all. I have my steering wheel pedals setup on a joystick hack and for some reason every once in a while, they don't exist. I have no clue why, but that's the way it is. The solution is to unplug them from the pc and then plug them back in. If you aren't sure if the joysticks work at all (they should if they did before), then try them in another machine.

I want to let you and Brian know that I appreciate your responses. I will be looking into this again next week, and either fix it, or get more details to post so people can better help me.

I learned the hard way that moving the USB devices around (plugging them into different ports at random) can cause issues as well. The joystick works, just having some issues, and I need to play with it again to remind myself of what they were.

To Everyone here at the GX forums,

Come to find out, I hadn't lost my U360, just my mind....

While working on the post that I made regarding GX updates, I was doing file comparisons between the last 3 versions of GX, and I caught the error that I had made. My apologies for being silly...I'm going to have to have my meds checked....

Thanks for trying to help, and for your patience!

I have 2 ultrasticks and I think I had the same problem. Only problem is I fixed it like last Nov.

Maybe describe to me more of what "I can't get my custom maps to work for my U360" means exactly and ity will probably tweak my memory.

What exactly are you seeing? Maybe send me something more...

Did you see my post right above yours? I got it fixed, but I am too embarrassed to say what the problem was.

But If anybody needs help, I can help them....

Thanks for the offer!
