Help 100% CPU usage (tried NoWaitVSync)

Hi,

My comp specs are

windows server 2003 enterprise edition 32bit

Ver 5.2 build 3790.svr03_sp2_gdr.070204-2249

P4 3GHz - with HT (theoretically OS sees it as dual core(possibly contributing to problem?)

512MB RAM

FX 5200 AGP 128

onboard sound

1.6TB Harddrive space

i have tried the NoWaitVSync=true / sleep = 15 via the gameex.ini file but cpu usage is sitting on 50% and heating it up alot

So therfor did not seem to work at all

gameex looks awesome little slugish in the menu's prob just needs some tweaking wicked program if i can fix this prob may donate some cash.

The system here is one of my low end servers used for fileserver1 / media pc

so local login is for tv all other administrative and behind the scene work is done remotely (concurrent logins) shouldn't be a problem...

Thanks in advance for your time/help

When I had this problem it was due to a corrupted paging file. I believe you need to go into virtual memory and set the paging file to 0 for both min and max (this deletes it), then reboot. Then set it to the proper amount, then reboot again.

bump, still need help.

I don't have the defualt theme is this a problem, i also have the newest version 9.12

What % of CPU time is Gameex using? CTRL-ALT-DEL to bring up the task manager, then performance. Also check to see if there are any other programs "hogging" CPU's.

Sorry if this is basic, it's all I could think of....

DOH! - Its in the title 100%!

I'm sorry, but I am the "basic answer man", So I can't help.

What version of GameEx are you running? The sleep setting was removed some time ago. GameEx now has automatic cpu utilisation control. I would not set this in the ini. Use the advanced config app and tweaks performance.

Let me know how that works out.

Thanks.

Tom

that feature is turned on on the configuration,

maybe i should try and re install gameex?

Have you tried what Tom suggested?

Usage varies by system, and it depends whats happening at the time, like if its playing msuic and/or video. Totally idle its about 5-10% on my dual core athlon 4000.

Maybe its just your system, I dont know, I would try a reinstall, but make sure you delee the entire contents of the gameex folder after the uninstall, in case the config is messed up. How new is your ArcadeVGA card? I know the original radeon 7000 based models are pretty slow. You could try turning off the anibak= settng in theme.ini in the theme your using, this can cause slowdown on older cards.

Sorry, realise your not using an arcadevga card. I think the anibak setting should solve it. If not read what I said about nvidia drivers in the FAQ. It might apply as your using an older card (by todays standards).

Sweet thanks i will try the anibak setting tonight and if that fails i will reinstall. i have not seen the nvidia related issue i will also look this up thanks. will post back later

I also see another thing that could be causing this, and that is your video card is reporting a refreh rate of 200 to GameEx. This is obviously wrong and may cause GameEx not to reduce cpu utilisation. What drivers are you running?

Long time user/lurker here...

This problem was killing me as well... and I found it to be utterly simple, but very difficult to find...

Media Center Stuff was turned on in the config (not sure when it got enabled), so it was looking for Media Center to be running constantly

this was pegging the processor to 100% on 1 core of 2... after disabling these settings it was reduced to 2-5% at idle.

tom, it would be nice to check the existance of the MCE itself and disable those options incase some one accidentally triggers this on their non MCE system.

I experienced a problem related to this too, i think. My AVI previews (Emumovie SQ) were stuttering badly. To get round this i enabled the 'reduce cpu cycles' option (i think thats what it's called anyway) even though i've not needed it before. Then i seen your post and disable the mce check (no stuttering now). I still think that there's something up with the way GX handles AVIs. A good few AVIs from the EmuMovies SQ collection won't play and just appear as snaps (stills). One of my home movie AVIs won't play (appears frozen) although it played fine before, another couple play too fast and with others there's a sound lag. Some appear with black borders left and right of the AVI when the borders weren't there before :( I'm an arcadevga user if it makes any odds. I upgraded from 9.12 to the current version.

:(
