There's a couple things that's been in the back of my mind on my GameEx, that I haven't felt like making a topic about up until now.

1. My favorites list will not update, no matter how many new games I add to it's list. It only shows 3 games, 3 that I added a long time ago. There is no option on the favorites menu to update the list either. (This seems to be centered around my SNES list--there are alot of problems with it. Like--when I select "Play Random Game" it just goes to my SNES game list, or when i'm browsing my SNES games, and I select a game, sometimes I just get sent back to the emulator list.)

2. On some of my Rom lists, the sort options will be shown (ex. "By Name", "By Category", etc.), and on others, it's not shown. (Just SNES, again.)

3. How do I change the text at the top of the intro, where it says "start.."? I've went into the text/language configuration and changed the fields that I thought were the right ones, but nothing actually gets changed.

Thanks for your help.

1. Is your gameex.ini (read only?)

2. Make sure for that rom you are using one of those nifty DB's... And your roms are named correctly.

3. If you changed the names and it still doesnt change the text make sure you choose.. Language Custom in the advnaced config.

1. my gameex.ini is not read-only, as far as I can tell.

2. I am using the database, and as far as I know, the games are named correctly.

3. Thanks for that, that fixed the problem.

Ok. it looks like you just need somebody to throw some crap at you. I'm more than willing, so stand back ;)

1. I'm assuming that you are trying to add the games to favorites by selecting the game in Gameex, and then highlighting "Add To Favorites" and then pressing the select button (whatever button enables you to select items in GX)

I did a search on my C: drive for "a word or phrase in the file" using tempest (I'm pretty sure tempest is in my favorites) as the search word. I then checked every file that had "tempest" in it and came up with nothing. Then I did a "all or part of a filename" search, and didn't get anything outside of my mame folder. So I don't know where Tom is hiding the information for favorites. So I can only say that if you are adding them as above, I can't help you.

2. This appears to be random, on my system:

snes (znes)

Visual Pinball

Raine

nebula

Daphne

Do not have the options shown

nes (nestopia)

Mame

Zinc

Do have the options shown

Now, to the best of my recollection, All I did was Download the NES, and SNES emulators through GX, and the only changes I made to the default configs was paths. I checked them both in the setupwizard > Emulator setup, and as far as I can tell, they appear the same. At the minimum, I can tell you that I checked pretty close in my GX.cfg, and there is nothing in there to indicate why there is a difference for NES, and ZNES.

I hope this information helps!

By the way I like your username, its much more creative than Tempest69, and alot shorter than:

One who wanders from place to place without a permanent home or a means of livelihood.

Bipedal primates belonging to the mammalian species Homo sapiens (Latin: "wise man" or "knowing man") in the family Hominidae (the great apes)

Edit: maybe I should have done a search for "favorites"? Why don't you give it a shot.....

Now what is that supposed to mean? If it's anything to you, i'd rather not have "crap" thrown at me.

But usually I'll take whatever I can get.

I think the sorting thing is a database problem, but my SNES list is the only one that is having this problem. My SNES list is having alot of problems.

I'll try searching for that favorite.

Or I might just reinstall GameEx.

I doubt a re-install of gameex will fix your issue.. Is your roms 7zipped? Can you export your emu config so we can take a looksey..

Well, the only reason I thought a re-install might help, is because I wasn't having this problem at first.

My roms aren't 7zipped, they're just in the ROM folder loose. I'd certainly export my emu config if there were an easy way to do it.

You have no Romfilter defined.

Use *.zip or

*. Whatever your rom formats are in zip,smc

Try that. :)

Also Id turn off the MAP file.. If yoru roms are named with GOODTOOLS then it should match up to the DB.

Usually MAP files are to make romname SMB display Super Marion Bros.

So in essence your RomNames really dont match up to the ones in the DB

Well, I used a program and added the .smc extension to all the games, and then added the rom filter as *.smc, which seemed to have fixed my Game list problems in SNES, so thanks a ton for that.

Now as far as having my rom names match up with the database, and GOODTOOLS...well, I have no idea what that is.

I don't know if you've noticed it yet, but i'm a noob.

Only one way to learn though, right?

Thats Right! But are you 100% sure your roms had NO extention? Any ways

Google "Cowerings Goodtools"

Dowload the snes.dat

http://www.allgoodthings.us/mambo/index.ph...=51&catid=4

copy the zip files contents into the romdirectoy. It reads the CRC of the file then give the rom the correct name.

Generally its run from DOS. Ill attach a bat file to run and rename the files in the current directory. Make a backup first.

However if the DB is working then your probably ok on the naming.

Im attaching the program and the batchfile. Unzip then go into the folder and copy all the files to your romdirectory. Run the GOOD.bat

Oh yeah... Make a backup of the roms first.

Well, just to make sure, to know that the database is working--should all the ROMs have info? Or I guess the right question is: What's a quick way to know the database is working like it should?

Hey, I wasn't trying to offend you (honest).

All I meant was that nobody was trying to hep you, so I took a shot at it. And as usual my advice was "crap". Making more fun of myself than anything else. Every once in a while, my "crap" hits the mark, and it actually helps.

My apologies for giving the wrong impression.

Oh, don't worry about it man. I knew you were kidding, and so was I. Sometimes sarcasm and humor doesn't transfer well over the internet. Not our mistakes--I guess it's Al Gore's (Since you know, he invented the internet and everything. Should have added some kind of application for humor.)

And anyways, your info wasn't crap, I learned some things.
