Can you see if it works with the default theme please.

No love... does not work with the default theme.

Also, I tried removing GameEX and starting with a fresh install. Still does not work: Same errors.

Please try this debug version, zip and post the log.

(It runs slow as its doing a lot of logging. That's normal).

Did you update your drivers recently by any chance?

You could also try increasing your onboard graphics ram.

Didn't update my drivers recently...

Tried increasing onboard graphics ram, still no luck (darn!!).

Can you give the one when you try and launch a mame game too?

Thanks.

Sorry, it does not appear to be a bug, its some incompatiblity with your system by the look of it. I am pretty sure its not directly related to the upgrade.

I dont know if this helps, but GameEx is failing when its trying to blit in directdraw 'errordialog.bmp'. You could possibly take a look at that graphics file. As I said I see no bug anywhere, or anything to do with something that has changed with the latest versions.

How much RAM do you have? You could try setting the 16-bit colour setting, or trying a different graphics drivers. There has been reported issues with newer Nvidia drivers.

yes the newer builds of Nvidia drivers are bad for alot of g-force Fx owners

one of my friends with a p4 2.8 and a G-force FX card had GameEX running with those newer drivers and it feelt like he had a p2 400 mhz it ran jerky and some games did run really bad as well then we tryed a older Nvidia build and now he runs Game-Ex perfectly so im using the 66.93 build that works best for me at least :)

Tom, thank you so much for all of your help on this.

I am using an AMD Athlon 1.92 GHz with 480 MB of RAM.

Guess what! Works when I switch it to use 16 Bit color! Bizarre that this happened on the upgrade... wonder if the new version increased RAM requirements juuuuust enough to make this happen?

Either way, might be time for me to buy more RAM.

Thanks again for your help!!

480MB really should be ample for GameEx. I think the issue is more related to your Video card or drivers, you could try increasing the ram on your video card some more. Your system looks in very good shape, its some kind of video issue I am almost certain.

Hope that helps a little.

Agreed. Anything newer than 66.93 is not working reliably for me either. I get video freeze-ups and all kinds of odd behavior with the 7x.xx drivers.

If you have 480mb of RAM, I'm assuming you're using onboard video with 32mb of RAM. What you probably need is a better video card.

Tom, Rob, thanks for your help. Looks like it's time to bite the bullet and buy a better video card, ehh?

Thanks again!!

Rob may know more aout video hardware than me, but before you splash out try an go into your computers BIOS, and see if you can increase the memory the Geforce 4 is using to 64MB or 128MB rath than 32MB.

Im just guessing but I'm thinking a Geforce 4 even if onboard should be able to support more than 32MB.

You dont need a really new card for GameEx just something thats say got 64MB to 128MB RAM and is reasonably recent and is perhaps not a budget version. I cant guarantee it but a decent Geforce 3 AGP card should do 32 bit I would I have thought. Any old shit should run in 16 bit though ;)

Good idea to check that, but onboard cards rarely go very high in my experience

Your original post was more fun B) . Keep what you think next time :P

I dont think these video card issues with 32 bit colour are actually anything to do with video memory, but rather crappy old gfx cards. I say this because I have 32 bit colour running in Virtual PC fine. Which emulates an S3 which reports only 8MB RAM. I think managed directx does not store the Direct Draw surfaces on the card, or only stores on the card when it has memory.

I think I've just been on message boards for too long. Too many posts get taken the wrong way, so I proofread.
