I'm probably being stupid, Its probably written somewhere right under my nose. But i can't for the life of me figure out how to use CP Wizard! Basically i want to map out my keys for PC Games and the controller image needs to be an Xbox 360 Controller (I know the D-Pads rubbish but i like them!) Also i wanna use IRC but i'll probably be talking to myself eh?

Thanks all

Headkaze,

I don't know if I'm the right person for this or not, but I would be willing to try and put together at least a beginners guide for the CPWizard.

Lord knows I'm qualified for the beginner part :lol:

I would only do this with your permission of course...

Brian,

If HK gives the go ahead, I would like to know what program you are using for those neat little screenshots (Seriously)

That would be a great idea, the only sort of tutorial i could see is the quick start guide on the CP wizard homepage and it makes on mention of PC Games etc. So i'm in support of that!

Make sure you cover creating configs for emulators. I haven't tried that yet cause I never end up having enough time in a single stretch to accomplish anything :wacko:

I use the prt sc (print screen) button on my keyboard :)

Then I open MSPAINT and press CTRL+V (paste) then I save as a jpg....

Its not rocket science but it works.

I cannot speak for HK but Im sure he would love the idea :)

tempest69: That would be great and greatly appreciated! I've had quite a number of people ask how things work. Many people don't understand how it works and all the features. Usually I only go so far as to write a simple ReadMe.txt which is a shame.

The thing is with supporting emulators and PC games is that all is fine and dandy until you find a game that doesn't like to be minimized. The PC game I used for testing was Far Cry and that game has no problem minimizing and being friendly to CPWizard. A confusion it will have for people is the default key to show the CP Viewer for everything other than Mame is 'L'. If your using a fairly recent version of Mame it detects pause to show the CP (by default is 'P'). So I can see how that would confuse some people off the bat. The other example profile I have is for Project64, this is where the problem begins. Project64 doesn't like being minimized. In fact it does strange things when you try to do that. I've always been meaning to sit down and figure that out. But anyway, at your disposal is the ability to send keys to each emulator/game before and after showing the CP. It also lets you customize the show button for each game/emulator. So it would be great if people started creating profiles for different games/emulators and posting them to share.

Another thing is label files. Since scraping AllGame I have a good bunch of control data for many systems. But I got side tracked by converting that data into a form that CPWizard can use. If you look under the Labels folder you can see the format it uses (right now only way to edit them is by hand, but they are very simple files)

Eg. Label File for PC Games with Far Cry example

[Default]
EMU_EMUNAME=PC Game
[Far Cry]
KEYCODE_5_PAD=Move Forward
KEYCODE_W=Move Forward
KEYCODE_2_PAD=Move Backward
KEYCODE_S=Move Backward
KEYCODE_4_PAD=Move Left
KEYCODE_A=Move Left
KEYCODE_6_PAD=Move Right
KEYCODE_D=Move Right
KEYCODE_ENTER_PAD=Jump
KEYCODE_0_PAD=Crouch
KEYCODE_LCONTROL=Crouch
KEYCODE_RCONTROL=Crouch
KEYCODE_V=Prone
KEYCODE_Z=Walk
KEYCODE_LSHIFT=Sprint/Switch Position
KEYCODE_RSHIFT=Sprint/Switch Position
KEYCODE_7_PAD=Lean Left
KEYCODE_Q=Lean Left
KEYCODE_9_PAD=Lean Right
KEYCODE_Y=Chat
KEYCODE_U=Team Chat
KEYCODE_TAB=Objectives/Scoreboard
KEYCODE_F=Use
KEYCODE_SPACE=Hold Breath
KEYCODE_SLASH_PAD=Flashlight
KEYCODE_L=Flashlight
KEYCODE_B=Binoculars
KEYCODE_T=Cry Vision
KEYCODE_F12=Take Screenshot
KEYCODE_F1=Switch View
MOUSECODE_1_BUTTON1=Fire
KEYCODE_R=Reload
KEYCODE_NUMLOCK=Toggle Firemode
MOUSECODE_1_Z_UP=Next Weapon
KEYCODE_PGDN=Next Weapon
MOUSECODE_1_Z_DOWN=Previous Weapon
KEYCODE_PGUP=Previous Weapon
KEYCODE_J=Drop Weapon
KEYCODE_H=Cycle Grenades
KEYCODE_G=Throw Grenade
MOUSECODE_1_BUTTON2=Toggle Zoom
KEYCODE_PLUS_PAD=Zoom In
KEYCODE_MINUS_PAD=Zoom Out
KEYCODE_1=Weapon Slot 1
KEYCODE_2=Weapon Slot 2
KEYCODE_3=Weapon Slot 3
KEYCODE_4=Weapon Slot 4

So I'm happy for you to help in any way by creating a tutorial or instructions and you can always PM me or get my e-mail address if you ever need to ask a question about it.

Headkaze,

I have to admit I'm glad you responded. I was a little confused when Nologic responded to my original post. At first I thought that maybe I was missing something, and that you had two usernames. I assumed you used one when you wanted to go off on people, and the other for everything else. :lol:

Then it occured to me that you might have multiple personalities, which concerned me because you and Nologic seem to go back and forth alot!

Now that youv'e responded I feel a little better.....although it doesn't really prove anything ;)

I will work on the instructions, and will look forward to everybody's input.

hehe I'm just not feeling the love here. ;)

I get the feeling I'm just a bit abrasive in my personality traits. :)

This will be the first and last time I'll admit to anything....If I didn't think you guys were alright, I wouldn't have stuck around this long!

I guess that what you get for keeping me entertained :P

No, NoLogic is certainly his own person. How evil would I be having two logins like that? Wow scary thought if it was true! And I wonder how difficult it would be to fly to Seattle to be him then back to Perth to be me all within a few hours! :blink:

I've been looking around while working on the docs, and I could be way off base, I'm sure HK will correct me if I'm mistaken.

It looks like all you would have to do is create a profile, and place it in the C:\Program Files\CPWizard\Data\Profiles.

Then make a label configuration, and place it in the C:\Program Files\CPWizard\Data\Labels. It looks like HK has set up "Far Cry" as a game in the PC.cfg. I would assume that he would want you to add additional PC Games to that file.

Create a layout file, and save it in the Layout folder.

If you have CPWizard running, shut it down and restart it.

Go to Edit>Options>profile, and enable the new profile and enter the name of the layout you created in the "layout" box.

Obviously, for sanity's sake, the Profile,Layout,and Labels files should all have the same Name (different extentions), and the <name>"game name"</name> entry in the profile should also match.

As far as I can tell, its that easy. Open the existing profiles, and label files and use them as a template.

If you find that any of this is wrong, please let me know, and I will revise this part in the Docs.

To create a profile you go Edit > Options > Profiles. Click New to add a new profile. They can either be "PC Game" or "Emulator" types. For every PC game you have to add it's own profile because profiles are used to search if the program is running in memory using it's exe filename. This is why you don't have to send command line options to CPWizard for PC Games or Mame because it detects which game is running automatically. For other emulators there is no way of knowing what game is running unless you send the name using -game <name> command line option.

Label files are used to fill labels up with the control data. In the PC.ini label file you will notice an example for Far Cry. You will need to add more games into that list to support more. Like I said eventually I want to have a collection of label files already for heaps of games. And also having a bunch of profiles for the most popular emulators already in there. That way you run CPWizard, run that emulator, press the show key and it shows the right controls for the running game. Of course for emulators besides Mame you have to send the name of the game through command line. But eventually I want to have CPWizard grab the game name from the command line using RegEx. I already have the code in place to get the command line of the running game/emulator I just need to create a simple method to extract the game name from it. After that there will be no need for sending the game name to CPWizard at all.

What a shocker this morning :( . Nologic is gone. When I started reading Tom's Post, I thought that Nologic had been killed, and I guess he has. I will definately miss him.

According to Headkaze, the latest version of the CPWizard has a help file included. Go to Help>help

I haven't tried it yet, I'm downloading now..... :rolleyes:

HK,

I downloaded CPWizard 1.64, and it will not run. The file size is 22MB, So I'm pretty sure I have the whole thing. I then uninstalled CPWizard and re-installed but it didn't help. It opened up the window for mame paths, I set my Mame.exe, and it goes to the CPWizard 1.64 - ben baker window (the outline of the window shows, but I can still see my desktop inside the window. at that point it locks up. I deleted my mame cfg file because the error log showed that as the last thing, after that it made it about 2 steps further. I am running windows XP Pro. Here is my log:

CPWizard.zip

Nothing has change that should mess up the install. I just downloaded and installed it from scratch. Seems okay here. Maybe you just need to wait longer while it generates the data files after you give it your mame exe. What happens when you run it again now?

This morning I tried shutting down my computer, and it wouldn't go so I did a hard reset, and everything is good.

I sometimes just need to be reminded that it's just me again. :blink:

The Docs look Great!
