Hey guys, I'm wondering if any of you can help me setup a Saturn emulator? I downloaded and tried SSF which is supposely the best Saturn emu out there I agree. But upon loading a Saturn game in GameEx it shows the window and it closes and goes back to GameEx. Is there a loader for SSF? I'd appreciate any help thanks!! :)

Hi Hunk, it certainly is possible to use SSF from GameEx, I've got it up and running perfectly.

Check the included config.

Cheers,

Arjen

Thanks for the help! Its working pretty good so far. I add to manually mount an image in Daemon Tools for the game to work or it'll go to the CD player screen :(. Also the desktop shows for a few seconds while the screen is flashing when starting up SSF in GameEx is this normal?

No, you should not have to manually mount any image with

LaunchBefore=""C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"[RomPath]\[RomFile]""

LaunchAfter="C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -unmount 0

in your config..

Looks exactly like in my config kinda strange though I don't understand why it goes to the Saturn bios screen maybe I should try using an ISO instead of an MDF file? It does work with Deamon Tools but I had to show all files in order to mount it though :(

When you are in the bios screen, is there an image mounted if you check daemon tools?, or do you get an error message in the bios screen, something like "game disk is not suitable format"?

It says drive empty and there doesn't seem to be anything mounted in Deamon Tools :/

Post your config... You have some examples of working configs.. Lets compare..

Verify emu versions.. etc..

No need to just *BUMP* hoping for a quick fix.. If it were that easy it be resolved by now. Its clearly not a gameex issue or an not con compatable emu... So lets see whats wrong here.

Besides.. Did you try mounting the iso through command prompt to be sure deamon tools is setup correctly.. I know there is a securemode setting that needs to be toggled in order to mount via CLI without it prompting you... Perhaps thats why its not loading the iso.

I apologize for the bump man. I have securemode toggled off in Deamon Tools. Heres two screen shots of my configuration hope this helps.

I tried mounting the iso in Deamon Tools then launch it in GameEx that was the only way I could get it to work :lol: I really have no idea what I'm doing wrong :(

Its cool man.. This is a busy forum.. It is easy to get sidetracked.

Ok in the advanced config there is an export button.. This will export your config to a readable INI. Not that screenshots are bad but its extra un-needed work.

Id try putting quotes around the command in launch before and after

eg

"c:\program files\deamon tools\deamon.exe ,0 etc..."

Your right I'm not the only who needs help :) I tried putting the quotes it didn't seem to work :( But. Heres my config I hope this helps thanks!!

I think you need quotes on your rompath:

RomPath="D:\Games\Sega Saturn"

You definitely need quotes around the path for launchbefore and launchafter:

LaunchBefore="C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -mount 0,"[RomPath]\[RomFile]"

LaunchAfter="C:\Program Files\DAEMON Tools\daemon.exe" -unmount 0

Hey bkenobi I tried putting quotes in RomPath="D:\Games\Sega Saturn but I get an "invalid rom path" error I also put quotes in the LaunchBefore/After still goes into the Saturn bios saying Drive Empty I know this is annoying guys I'm sorry :( Thanks for the help!

Hey guys it turns out the Deamon Tools directory was wrong in LaunchBefore/After Brian pointed this out to me. I really should have checked that first (embarrassed look) :lol: All seems to be working now :)

Since this was the last thread posted involving SSF, i'm going to continue it.

Is the gameex virtual drive not compatible with SSF? I absolutely hate that emulator it always spams me with windows "SSF?????????????????" and the dev forum is in japanese.

I'm using windows 7 64 bit, when I tried to install daemon tools last week I get an incompatible issue. I'm sure there is something out there, I just want to make sure that the above thread is not outdated and the included vdrive with the fe does not work. I finally got my NullDC setup and the build in one works perfectly.

Change your language settings in Windows to Japanese (temporarily), load SSF again, and post a screenshot of the error.

Does the emulator work outside gameex? We may need to see your config to make any good guesses as to why it is not working.

Alcohol can mount a disc image via command line. I think one way or another it will run.

LaunchAfter="c:\Program Files (x86)\DAEMON Tools Light\daemon.exe" -unmount 0

** Edit ** ^^^^ double "" on launchbefore shows in .cfg file, but only one in the FE editor. Looks like my problem solved.. thanks :)

By following the above instructions and a guide on maximus's forum I just went ahead and did it this way with daemon tools. apparently thats still current info as they are using wrappers as of last month.

I've followed the commands to a t using and not using " on path as well as not using % or the full name, and daemon will not mount for me. i think it may be a timing issue as maximus' batch file includes a ping delay. also tried the info given in another thread down the line with the unzip.7z directory and gave up on that notion and decided to go to the straight bin.cue files because of the unzip delay being longer than i would like.

anyway using dos prompt, the command works. here's my config files..

well scratch that notion.. i made the mistake of installing the project64 1.7.0.55 virus last night and my processes have been failing or locking since.

I'm sure I can eventually get it working, this whole SSF has been tackled numerous times.. I just wanted to make sure daemon tools mouting was still the way, considering gameex having its own cd mounting.

jelly: when you get the chance on tues could you submit your NO$GBA / NO$ZOOM to the sticky on emulator configs? that one is not included.

If you think its a timimg issue then I can whip up a solution. I have some homework to do but I think I can get some time in today to get it up.

just glancing over my post, I see what the prob probably is.. the Launchbefore has two ""c:\ ... but only one in the configuration window. I will check that out later... i guess sometimes it helps to look at .cfg files for a change to see whats REALLY going on

jelly: when you get the chance on tues, could you submit your NO$GBA / NO$ZOOMER config to the emulator sticky thread? that emulator is not covered and I'm still stuck on exit crashes.

Will do. The config is on my cab -- and I won't be in the shop until Tuesday, so I'll post it then.

If you post a screenshot of the error in Japanese (you'll need to turn that on it windows) I can tell you what it says.
