Hi guys,

first post on the forum, but an happy GameEx user for more than one year. BTW, GameEx worth every dollar I gave (and more!).

Here's my config:

Vista Home Premium (no SP1 RC installed)

Core 2 Duo E6320

2 Gb DDR2-667

GeForce 7600GT

2x80Go in RAID0 using the Intel ICH8R controller.

GameEx registered

Using GoodMerge sets

My Roms are on a network share (Z:) that my MediaCenter has full write access.

Since release 8.9x on GameEx:

Everytime I select Sega Master System (Fusion emulator) in my list on emulator, GameEx crash with the "usual" DirectDraw error. All my other emulators runs fine (Project64, ZSNES, NESTopia, MAME and Fusion BUT WITH Genesis roms). Please note that Fusion emulator is running fine outside GameEx.

Note that I tried:

Changing Sega Master System emulator to another "slot" in GameEx.

Unmerging my roms

Copying my roms locally on my hard drive

Tried other themes (it is crashing with every theme I tried)

Tried changing resolution (right now i'm running GameEx 1920x1080 on my LCD TV but I've tried as low as 800x600)

Tried moving every other "non-roms" files from my SMS roms folder

Tried advanced graphics: off

Tried 16 bits colors

Tried 3 different nVIDIA GeForce drivers version 163.75, 169.12, 169.25

Reinstalled Vista

Reinstalled GameEx without my "old" INI files (basically a fresh install)

Read virtually every thread on this forums ;o)

BTW, I'm an IT guy for a living and I'm pretty at ease with computers. So, this post is really a desperate call for help...

Thx in advance for your help guys.

Great,

Please post the log that gameex generates. :)

also

Please export the emu config so we can see what your doing.

Possibly the fusion cfg also.

Have you gone through and removed pathing to snaps\titles\movies\box\cart\manual\controls\instruction in addition to removing the logo...as maybe some of the other data is corrupted and is causing the failure.

Basically strip it to the bone...oh and probably should deselect the database as well.

Oh and as suggested by another user make sure you have the latest build of fusion installed.

I'll try to think of other things that maybe the problem...but right now I'm stumped as SMS(fusion) is running fine on my system but I am also using roms that match No-Intro's sets.

Oh and welcome to the board. :)

Thx for the quick replies. I'm at work right now so I'll post my config files only tonight.

Good idea but I've already tried to remove all paths (snaps, titles, etc.) except roms (duh). But it never crossed my mind to unselect the database. It'll be my first try tonight!

BTW, I have Fusion latest build (3.51).

So, next post tonight!

Of course, a log file would be helpful if that doesn't work... ;)

Nologic: your suggestion worked! By disabling the SMS database, GameEx stopped crashing!

But I'm still curious if I did something wrong in my GameEx.ini...

Are you using a PSX emulator? Emulator 6 appears to have nothing configured for it, so if that's the case I suggest you turn it off.

Yes, I'm using ePSXe and it is working perfectly...

BTW, how can I "fix" my SMS Database to make it work with my romset?

Well its good that solved the problem...but its still confusing as I have that DB working in my setup...maybe yours got corrupted somehow...I'd suggest deleting it & maybe rerunning the installer to get a fresh replacement...tho the db certainly isn't required but its nice to have. :)

Your config looks fine from what I see.

SMS DB works okay for me too, and my setup is very similar to yours. What resolution are you running GameEx at? What theme are you using?

Try running your romset through cowerings goodtools

Try running your romset through cowerings goodtools

1. I'm running GameEx at my native LCD panel resolution: 1920x1080@60hz. But I've tried at different resolutions and the SMS DB is still crashing.

2. I'm using the Hybrid Blue WideScreen.

3. It is a good idea to delete the DB and let a fresh install recreate it, but I've already done that. By reinstalling Vista, and GameEx, the database is supposed to be the latest.

4. When you suggest to run Goodtools, what do you mean exactly? My romset is already named with the usual naming convention and they are GoodMerged. So I don't really know what to do with GoodTools...

GoodTools will check the roms checksums as well as the naming. If there is a bad checksum (a corrupt file, wrong version, etc), it will let you know and you can correct the problem.

Finally, I've "re-GoodTooled" my SMS romset and now, the GameEx database seems to work perfectly. But as Nologic pointed earlier, I think my snaps are no good coz if I enable them WITH the SMS database, it crash.

So, I'll find another snaps/title set and everything should be in order.

Thx you all for your help!

Hi all,

Even though it sounds like your fixed now, just thought I would add another scenario that could cause this - If an icompatible decoder is installed on the system (i.e. not ffdshow) then this error will often pop up, and if a snapshot was somehow written in a slightly unusual manner (i.e. not standard) this will also cause this error.

Dwight.

Wow, I didn't realized that you posted, it is SOOOO impolite not replying you!

I tought about it and your right on spot, I've used Filmerit 3.0 to check the integrity of the codecs installed on my Vista and there was some errors. Since Filmerit fix it, everything if back to normal in GameEx and my SMS roms/snaps.

So, I could recommend to everyone to check their codecs installed with: http://paul.glagla.free.fr/filmerit_en.htm

A great tool!

Thx again!
