Ok, I have two questions I hope someone can help me with:

1) How do you set the custom background for MAME in the Valhalla theme? I have set the custom backgrounds for NES, SNES, Genesis, etc. to where it shows Mario, Crono, and Sonic for each page. All you do is go to each system's page in the Advanced Configuration and scroll down the list at the custom background option. However, there is no such thing that I've found for MAME. I've seen a picture where Scorpion is shown for the MAME page, as shown here: http://www.gameex.info/forums/index.php?ac...ost&id=1018 . How do I get it to show this image?

2) I'm trying to get Fusion to work with GameEX so I can play Sega CD games. I have gotten it to work perfectly fine outside of GameEX, but when I try it with GX, all I get is silence and a black screen. I loaded the Fusion .ini, set the filter for *.bin, since all my files are bin/cue. Any idea what I'm doing wrong? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You should set the filter to *.cue , cause the cue File has the Track information.

Try using Nologics .ini, if you have´nt used it yet (I attached it)

Extract and copy it in your "\GameEx\CONFIG\EMULATORS\IMPORT-EXPORT" Directory, and import it

Hi Lucas,

I dont think it's possible to have a seperate background for mame at the moment.

The MAMEbak.png does not work, the screenshot you have linked to probably uses another background image like bak.png, or startbak.png. However if you choose to make one of those filenames a mame wallpaper, it will appear in unwanted sections of gameex.

Nope, that didn't work. Still nothing but a black screen and silence. I don't see why DAEMON tools would be needed since Fusion loads .bin files like it does roms. There's no need for a virtual drive. Anyone else have any ideas? I can't think of anything.

Actually there is a lesser error in that config of mine after reviewing it. Your right it can load BIN & ISO images directly...however there are more valid disc images than just those two that people maybe using...that Fusion doesn't support natively...so while a virtual drive isn't needed...it is by and large the more acceptable method to use, so that others run into fewer bumps in the road. :)

That said...you do have the Sega CD bios don't you?

Yep, you´re right, daemon tools are not needed.

Pls post the Sega CD part of your gameex.ini.

Yes, I have the bios files. I can get the games to run fine outside of GameEX. For some reason, I simply cannot get Sega CD or Turbografx CD games in bin/cue format to work with GameEX at all. I have Daemon tools and have tried using the configuration files from this forum but I've had no success. Here are my .ini files:

Any help would be greatly appeciated because I'm about to pull my hair out. With the Turbo CD, I used a work around where I used .ini files for each game that would load when I put the actual CD in, but now I just want to use bin/cue so I don't have to load the CDs.

Your configuration appears to be the same as what I was originally using. I went ahead and changed everything to be the same as what you've posted and nothing changed. Is there something I need to do with Fusion perhaps, like change something in the fusion.ini?

Really no clue as to what is your problem...there is nothing that really needs to be configured in Fusion to get it to play the games outside of the bios....check your cue files to see if there is any pathing info listed in them...if so remove it...

Are your disc's contained in separate folders?

No, I have all the bin and cue files together in one folder. Should I seperate them into individual folders or something? I tried turning the show desktop option on to see what happens. Fusion loads, then the window goes white and Fusion gets stuck. I'm at my wits end here.

nah all in one folder is fine...seperate folders is generally only done with you have cue+iso+mp3\wav sets...to keep the clutter down.

Roms in folders does not work...

I use Gens32 surreal to load my sega cd. All my segacd games are in ISO+MP3 format.

Here is a copy of my config.

Keep in mind youll have to configure it outside gameex first and point to the bios files and make it launch fullscreen automatically.

May be an obvious question but are you running the current version of Fusion (3.51)? I was running 3.2 forever and when I switched to GameEx recently I found that it would give me a blank screen, although that was with Genesis and 32x roms, not SegaCD. Works perfectly now I updated.

Ok, this is getting ridiculous. I downloaded Gens32 surreal and got my bin/cue games to work perfect outside of GameEX. However, in GameEX all it does is go black for a second then come back to GX. I used the same exact configuration you have listed here except I put romfilter as .cue, and then as .bin yet neither worked. I know you use iso/mp3 format, so I thought maybe that was the problem so I ripped one of my CDs as an ISO and it still didn't work. One thing I noticed that was weird in your configuration is the line "configFile=nes". What does that mean? By the way, I did have the latest version of Fusion, 3.51, and it didn't work for me.

Posted

Correct me if I'm wrong, but configFile=nes is probably an advanced config file that does a few things. Among other things, it can be used to have a multi-key quit sequence in emulators. So for instance, if you want to press up+left+button1+button4+button7 for whatever reason, you could do that. As I recall, the file is located in the c:\Program Files\GameEx\Config\Emulator directory.

Posted

Yea I use a gamepad on my laptop for exitng and playing games... I use xpadder to map my buttons to keystrokes so I have only one advanced config that works for everything... This shouldn't make any diffrence to why your emu is not working. :)

Double check your pathing information maybe something is spelled different than whats in your config...lord knows I've made that blunder a number of times. ;)

Brian helped me out. I actually did have a spacing error in my config settings for Gens32, which Brian quickly noticed. After a few little clicks, he had it all working for me. Now he's working on getting Magic Engine to run bin/cue files for me, which seems to be a bit more difficult. He's good at this stuff though, much better than I am. Thanks again, Brian.

I was wondering if it was a path thing. I noticed GameEx crashed right after going through the path stuff, but didn't know for sure. Oh well, good catch Brian!

Now that I have the Sega CD running alright, I'm having problems with some of the games. I'm trying to play Snatcher, Sonic CD, and Final Fight CD and none of them run right. For some reason, Snatcher doesn't play any of the music and it doesn't play the intro. Sonic CD doesn't play any of the music at all. Final Fight CD goes to the Sega CD music player, then when I press start the Capcom info comes up and it freezes. I have two rips, one that's bin/cue and the other that is iso/wav. The iso/wav rip I got from a reputable site and is supposed to be TOSEC. Both games do the same thing in both Fusion and Gens32 surreal. Any ideas or suggestions?
