a game will come up that i like and apparently you press button 6 to play it ,

but that rarely works,

cant we have an option in the config menu to enable the esc button to end screensaver and any other button pressed will allow you to continue playing the game

or if you dont want to add this feature is there a way i could manually change it myself ,

like in the ini files or something

You need to press the coin button which is button 5 for player 1 or button 6 for player 2. If you are pressing 6 and it doesn't work, then I'm guessing that keyboard button 5 is the only one GameEx looks for.

If only I had that problem...

None of my MAME games seem to be able to bypass the info screen. Maybe I need to update? Or isn't there a utility that sets a cfg for each so I can bypass info and warning screens altogether?

It's like GameEx isn't typing OKOKOKOKOK in VK for some reason on my XP machine.

Try this switch in the Advance Mame Settings under Mame Options

-skip_gameinfo

I can confirm that is set in the command line switches, so I don't think that's it. :(

Quick Edit: Wait... Maybe that was skip_disclaimer not skip_gameinfo ... Now I gotta check when I get home. Thanks! :)

In the current versions of MAME (v0.118+), there is a new control system. This new system is more picky and doesn't accept inputs from AHK, AI, GameEx, XPadder, etc quite as nicely. As a result, GameEx no longer can send the bypass disclaimer string (OKOKOKOKOK) to go strait to the game. If you search the forum, there is a thread about compiling your own version based on some instructions and a couple patches. If you do that, you will end up with a version of MAME that doesn't even ask questions any more, so you don't need to worry about it!
