has anyone found that kega fusion hard locks their machine sometimes?

i discovered this while by accident while i had it enabled as one of the screen saver modes ...

then, the hard way, trying to play one of the batmans (the more photo realistic one...batman returns?)

normally it works beautifully .. but some roms seem to make it crash the PC itself.... which i find somewhat strange.

the machine is nothing but stable otherwise.... even ran Orthos for 4 days straight....

I haven't had any problems with it. Maybe some of your roms are corrupt. Don't see it being your PC if everything else is running fine. What specific system/games you have problems with and I'll see if I have the same problem?

Well I've always ran into issues with Gens32 Surreal failing to fully exit....but by the same token I"ve never ran into issues with Kega...

alright well i changed out all my bios files to more reliable looking dumps. not sure if that will have an effect. i'm going to have to give things a bit more of a test ..

building cabs with mame + a pile of console emus sure makes for a lot of 'moving parts' that all need thorough testing and tuning ;)

Yeah, but that's half the fun! Or if you're nuts about it like I am, 75% of the fun! :)

As a KEGA User the only time I had any lockups was when I was using a bad BIOS.

yeah i love all the hacking involved. so many different aspects to it too. from pc hardware to apps to os to electrical wiring to A/V to physical hacking of wood/mounting stuff/etc. then trying to make it all easily digested by "users." quite a challenge.

i just wish i could make kega stop hard locking the machine =(

to be honest its the one thing that is really breaking my heart. i just cant accept the idea of the user being able to hard lock the cabinet. it makes it become......well, no longer an "appliance"

i replaced all the bios files ... but still seem to be able to crash it with certain ROMs. *sigh*.

not sure what im going to do yet.. i dont mind things like running snaps on my N64 emu...and picking through every one to figure out which games ran properly enough to get to the point of a real snap...and deleting the rest.... but hard locking the machine.... makes me want to cry... heh

but..if you say you got this problem with bad bios files...well, maybe there is hope after all.

I would verify with a dat file and run it through clrmame or romcenter just to make sure it's not your game rom. Depending on what romset you have like Nologic said.

goodmerge roms.

i think that i've fixed the problem(!)...by disabling BIOS files/usage for all emus in Fusion except SegaCD which requires it...and got new files for those.

phew. i hope this is really true. i think i'll sleep better tonight =)

i know i was driving all ~35mi to work with this fusion hardlocking issue plaguing me in the back of my mind thinking my cab would have a major irreparable defect that would render it a total POS and revoke it's "gaming appliance" status...thus turning it back into a giant PC hack job =)

we'll see...i'll leave fusion enabled as a screensaver...that would always crash it withot fail before if i gave it enough time

Hope it works for you. I'll keep my fingers crossed. Never would have thought about that unless It was my machine and I tried everything there was to try. LOL.

No bios use is best in KEGA as full bios useage was never fully implemented other than Sega-CD which you need. Kega 3.6 was supposed to have this feature but looks like the project is done. :) Been a while. :) lol.

yeah seems to be working well now. i used to be able to crash the machine by running the gameex screensaver w/ kega fusion enabled and just randomly hitting certain genesis games.

well, now that i have the bios disabled for everything but CD (and used new/seemingly good dumps for those) ... i can... well.... lets just say i started taking snaps last night with 60 second runtime ... and its still up and cranking right along :)

cheers guys , thanks

Glad to hear you're running. I go nuts when I have something not working right. I kill myself just trying to figure it out. But the community is great here and lots of smart people to help you out. Happy gaming!
