If you do not want to be automically subscribed to new topics, do the following.

In: Profile (My Controls) > options > email settings:

Uncheck: Send me any updates sent by the board administrator

If you want to stop all emails for topics you have already been automatically subscribed to, then just unsubsribe to all topics also in the control panel.
