Hi, I just installed GameEX and it will not run, crashes as soon as it opens and displays the XP/Microsoft error box "GameEX has encountered a problem and needs to close".

I have ran the setup wizard numerous times, changing settings one at a time and trying to run GameEX after each change but no matter what I do, it still will crash as soon as I open it, nothing seems to help.

I have MAME, MAME32, and AdvanceMAME installed and each of those will run fine independently. I have also made sure my video card and display drivers are up to date. DirectX and direct 3d (d3d) are up to date and work fine with the DirectX Diagnostic tool.

I also have the latest dotnet (dotnet 3) installed.

Here is a copy of my log file:

Are you running a lite or barebones xp install?

You can try installing .net 2.0.

I am running Windows XP Pro - full install and have .net 3.0 installed

.NET 3.0? I didn't realize there was a 3.0, but you may want to get 2.0 since that's what GameEx uses. I don't know if 3.0 is fully backwards compatible.

I uninstalled .net 3, restarted my pc, reinstalled .net 2 , restarted pc and then tried again - still get the same result :-(

will not run

Does anyone have any ideas for me to try ??? I really want to get this working............

1) Uninstall GameEx and delete the directory

2) Reinstall GameEx

3) Do not configure any emulators and just run GameEx bare stock to see if it runs (it should)

4) Customize as desired a little at a time rather than everything all at once

OPTIONAL) Before you delete the GameEx directory, copy GameEx/CONFIG/GameEx.ini to a backup location. When done with the above (assuming it works), compare the files to see what the difference is. It could be the config, but it could also be a corrupted install.
