It looks like the installer didn't get updated on the server. The download is still for v2.04...

I just tried it and I get 2.11. Perhaps your getting a cached version somehow. You can always add a "?xxx" to the end of the download url to make sure it's not cached.

Eg. Try this link

Interesting. I'm at work now, so I can't try this on the same system. I'll grab it with my work computer and throw it on a flash drive just in case it gives me troubles later this evening. Thanks!

Yes but no but....

Installed the latest CPWizard along with the updated Ultrastik plugin last night. Running one version of GameEx behind the just-updated edition as well.

I've been struggling with gettting CPWizard to display in a pause state under GameEx/MAME and recently it would often not appear when launcing the game as well... It seemed to always appear (my memory's a little hazy on this) when using the Display Controls option under GameEx however.

Anyhoo, I gone with the default 3 retries at 2000ms now available under CPWizard and, whilst testing the updated Ultrastik plugin, I also threw some pause requests in.... it does seem that, like before, you briefly (a nanosecond) see the CPWizard rendition of my panel before it disappears into an all-back screen but then eventually it does display, presumably because of one of the retry attempts (had to say which one... the delay seems longer than 2 seconds but I didn't have a stopwatch running...I'm suspecting try 3 is the one that eventually "works" since 6 seconds would be about right)

However I still swear that some pauses in Moon Patrol still didn't display the Control Panel... I restarted a couple of times and most of the time it now displays after the initial flash and display and sometimes it won't. The verbose log of CPWizard doesn't seem to show anything (posted below), in fact I'm pretty sure this log was the one where Moon Patrol didn't display even though the log seems to show it did.

I tried turning off an option in GameEx (the one that says to hide the desktop so I think hideos.exe runs?) but it didn't seem to make any difference.

So...it's better but something still ain't quite right.

Version 2.12 Released

- Bug fixes. Improved Show/Hide.

I accidently added a 10 second wait to the last release and I thought I had fixed the focus problems but I hadn't. So I've been working on this again today and I hope I've made an improvement.

Wombat: Please try 1.12 and let me know how you go!

Hey guys,

just started using CP wizard and loving it!

ive only got a cpl of probs, ive ironed out all my other issues myself so far.

* CPwizard detects mame pauses fine, but when i leave the menu it stays paused in mame

* When i start a mame game, CPwizard only shows the CP for about .5 of a second. Is there anyway to extend that?

i attach my Ini file for CPwizard.

Hey guys,

just started using CP wizard and loving it!

ive only got a cpl of probs, ive ironed out all my other issues myself so far.

* CPwizard detects mame pauses fine, but when i leave the menu it stays paused in mame

* When i start a mame game, CPwizard only shows the CP for about .5 of a second. Is there anyway to extend that?

i attach my Ini file for CPwizard.

Mame will stay paused when you exit unless you apply the bezel patch available on the CPWizard website. You also have to enable the "Send Pause Key" option under the Mame tab. I am hoping Aaron will get back to me about a method of pausing Mame without using the patch. But I think I found a bug in Mame at the same time so if they fix the bug then I will be able to pause/unpause Mame the next release without the patch.

The CP should show for about 5 seconds. And currently I see no option in GameEx to change that amount of time. I would download the latest version of CPW just to be sure it's not all the updates I've done lately causing a problem.

Other than that it might have to be a feature request for Tom. But really it should be showing for about 5 seconds anyway.

Downloaded and tried out the latest CPWizard on the weekend with about 20 of my favourite MAME games. So far, I have only seen one "artifact" whereby you could see CPWizard display the control panel before the game for a nano-second before "disappearing" but then presumably one of the retries kicked in and it displayed again (very) shortly thereafter.

So far, it has appeared every time it's been called for...from within GameEx menu, prior to launching a game, and upon pause within a game.

So Yay!!!! Thanks Headkaze.

Thanks for the update HK! The image selection works great now. ^_^

One question though. Every time I update, my profiles and MAME overrides get messed with. The preferences that have the same name as the default ones are always reverted and reinserted if missing (Far Cry and Project 64). Those aren't too big a deal now that I realized I can just name them something different. The more frustrating one is the MAME overrides. I have rotary joystick and lightgun overrides set up (rotary optical, rotary mechanical, analog lightgun, lightgun) which are not the same as default. Every time I update, default mahjong and lightgun are there, but mine are missing. Any way to keep this from happening? Thanks for the great app!

Hiya HK!

Well, I installed CPWizard finally, and it looks pretty great. I installed the patch when I compiled MAME. Now, though, when I press L in game, it won't pull up the CP. I can see the icon in the tray, and it shows when I boot the game, but why isn't it popping up when I run the game? The key is set to 'L' like it's supposed to be and everything, but it just doesn't want to come up. What am I doing wrong here?

I set all the paths correctly and all triggers are set up in GameEx, so it's really driving me bonkers. I also have all the needed dats and inis. I sure would like to get this running, if for no other reason than to use the txt reader for walkthrus and whatnot. Any help would be appreciated.

Adultery these days CPWizard is designed to show when Mame is paused (default 'p'). So when you pause Mame CPWizard will show. If you have to use some other key I would set it in Mame's input settings.

Well...

I pause MAME (press P) and it still doesn't pop up. But it still pops up before the game, and it pops up when I select 'View Controls' so I really have no idea why it's not working. :(

I didn't change anything as far as key codes so I am just totally lost here.

I'm having the same problem, but by using the export -> bezel method instead. I created all of the bezels, unzipped them all and put them into the mame artwork directory. I can browse it by selecting "artwork" in gameEX when I'm browsing games, but when I pause mame nothing comes up. I patched the 129 mame source with 129u1, 129u2, then the hiscore patch, then the 129u2 bezel patch. I've also tried this including the 129u3 patch and have gotten the same result. Maybe I'm missing something, but I'm out of ideas.

Adultery: Can you please turn on Verbose logging and then try and pause Mame with CPWizard running, then post CPWizard.log and CPWizard.ini.

Kenpachi: You should not unzip them, they must stay zipped up ;)

Sure thing. Probably something stupid I'm doing wrong anyways. :)

When I installed 2.12, all of my settings were defaulted this time. I ended up having to set all of my options up again. Once I finished, CPWizard worked fine again. Btw, is that a new background (blue with waves)? Maybe I had it set to black desktop before. Anyway, looks good!

Adultery: I screwed up the last update when I introduced the new IPC system. Please try 2.14 and post your log again if there are any problems. Also make sure verbose logging is on before CPWizard is launched so I can get the full log.

BTW I'm suprised CPWizard was working from GameEx because the previous update broke that. Perhaps that is why it's not working for you I'm not sure? Anyway I fixed that so lets hope it works for you now.

I can't get the controls to show when I pause MAME when keeping them zipped either. I even thought maybe I forgot to add the bezel patch for 129u2, so I went back and recompiled MAME again (using 129u1, 129u2, hiscore, and bezelpatch129u2 diffs). I put them into the artwork folder, and I'm still not getting anything to show.

I'm not sure what your doing wrong then. If you accidently apply a patch twice it will undo it. So maybe you should try a new compile from the start. It definately works I've tested 192u2 with hiscore and bezel patch and it works okay. So something must have gone wrong with your compile.

Thanks HK!

Works a treat now. :) All I need to do now is to get it going in my emulators too and I'll be golden. Thanks again!

I got it working, although I'm not exactly sure what did it. This time I took JUST the mame.exe file from the compiled mame source and placed it into a directory with the extracted mame binary. I also put the bezel files (zipped) into the mame binary folder's artwork folder. What I had been doing was just telling gameEX where the mame artwork folder was in settings (it wasn't in the mame directory). Right now I don't have any directory in that place in the GameEX settings, it's blank. One of these changes made it work, and I'm not sure which one it was but I'm happy now :) .

If you don't update them alot I guess you could try setting the file read-only?

To elaborate on what BK said, the overrides are untouched, but the entries no longer exist in the Layout maps section of the Mame tab, so all of the entries have to be re-done.

Also, I updated from 1.95 to 2.14 yesterday, and my trackball controls don't show. I see you have new entries for trackball inputs, so I updated mine, and it didn't help. And yes, I realize that I'm probably doing something wrong... :(
