gameEX finding way more mame32 roms than in path

im new so bear with me. the problem im having is that i have 40 game roms in my mame32 rom folder but when i go to gameEX and update game list ot brings up 2089 of them and the dont work. my rom path is set up to the right folder and i only have that one path. where is gameEX getting all these games. any help would be great

In the gameex advanced config enable show only existing roms and turn on verify roms.
