Awesome! Now to find a computer that can run it at a playable speed... Ah, here we go:

lol I was about to ask what sort of spec we need to play anything

Really, there was a guy who made an impressive video of Kingdom Hearts 2's opening FMV on their forum, and his specs were like

[intel® Core™2 Duo E6750 @ 3.75GHz | NVIDIA 7900GTO 512MB @ 685/1740MHz | Team Xtreem 2x1GB @ DDR2-1126

I tried it on my PC with a P4 3.0 ghz (non-dual core), 2gb of RAM, nvidia 8600 gt system and the system bios intro alone brought it to its knees. So you really need just about the best, newest PC you can buy right now to run this thing. Definitely dual core and top-of-the-line graphics card sort of thing. Still, very impressive work, and the technological curve will catch up. I remember when you had to have a bleeding edge PC to run Nintendo 64 emulators...

Has anybody come up with a new config for pcxs2 0.9.4 or 0.9.5? It's the last emulator I'm working on incorporating into Game Ex, and the only one I'm not sure there is a working config for yet. I can imagine the trouble with this one being the Linuzappz plugin, having to load an iso confirm then execute.

That's a good point, I've actually put my AM2 motherboard back in my Cab so it wouldn't be powerful enough to run it

Anything dual or quad should run it fine. I was getting about 45-50fps on my single 3.7HT, until I went to the Q6600. Now in certain games (FFX Kingdom Hearts) I can get 100+fps and capture video simultaneously because the emulator takes advantage of multiple cores. I'll try to modify a dreamcast config because they are pretty similar except for the iso loading.

I have a dualcore 2.4 ghz pentium with 4 gig ram... The only drawback is its a 128meg dedicated video its a nvida 8400(which is 8 series so supports most shaders)

I crawl at running kinddom hearts...

:(

Maybe Ill take a looksey

I bet it runs pretty smooth on your Q6600. I plan on upgrading my Desktop Core 2 to a Quad myself late ron down the road and use my Core 2 Duo in my cabinet. Though it takes money which obviously sucks lol. SOme games using PCSX2 require a good graphics card like Resident Evil 4 or any of th FF games. Anyway if you get it going let me know via PMor this thread. Oh and Brian sorry for the bump in this thread I know the same questions get asked over and over and it must be a pain

Is there an advantage to a quad core? (other than doing snaps)

I didn't think there were emulators taking advantage of all 4 cores...

I have a core 2 quad 9300 (at 3.5ghz) and a 9600gx2 graphics card. Videos are no problem and most run at full speed. Running Simpsons Road Rage results in between 30-38fps (in game) and 45-55fps during the menu. The motherboard is the latest triple sli asus x38 chipset and I also have 4gig of matched DDR3.

So, I am a bit confused over how you get frames of 100+ unless this is in a game with static backgrounds and dialogue (FFX), try a game that uses 3D fully (as in Road Rage).

I would love to see a video of your frame rates.

I think PCSX2 only takes advantage of two cores in a Quad Core but I think the real advantage is when it's using two cores there's two free to do background stuff with.

Kingdom Hearts FFX and Gradius 5 I get real good frame rates, other 3d games more like 30fps, but they aren't worth playing yet. I was merely stating that they run well enough to play and capture videos with. There are also a lot of ways to make them much faster if you are not interested in the accuracy, such as losing the time scaling and sound and not using AA. The comparison I meant to suggest was that on a single core with no bells and whistles it was hard to play, but with a quad you can easily reach playable speeds with the more popular games. I doubt we'll be playing Gran Turismo 3 anytime soon, but there are still games that run well currently.

I have to admit, Ps2 emulation has come a long way.

Sorry, but I was comparing my speed as in using high compatability and timing. Thus to leave it to emulate as close as possible to original. Have not got Gradius to try. will look for that as sounds interesting. Games run faster when they do not have to handle too much geometry.

Looking at the processor meter, Pcsx2 does spread itself across all cores, but, as you point out, never reaches max on any. There is a good 50% worth of processor left sitting idle. This does lead me to believe that 60fps emulation is not too far off if the cores are all used.

Fingers crossed.
