I was wondering if the jukebox feature is just a jukebox that sorts music files you have on your harddrive.

Or does the jukebox feature allow me to play jukebox music only, and mute the game sounds? I guess that would mean controlling music and game sounds as seperate functions.

I'd love to play Crusin USA with my favorite songs blasting, and maybe have the game sounds turned lower.

Is that possible?

Thansk!

The jukebox will sort your music by ID3 tag and let you play it as though you have a jukebox..

The Attract mode has an option to let music play in the backround of a mame game. When it does that it adds the -nosound switch to mame.

This will cut the sound out of mame and save the processing power while playing your MP3's.

Currently there is no option for playing MAME or emulated games while listening to your library... Perhaps you should submit a feature request if thats what you want to accomplish.

I'm not entirely sure but i don't think so. You can experiment - it's under Audio Options (i think) in the Setup Wizard. I think you have either the option to pause the playlist/jukebox and play your game with sound or play both jukebox and game sound. But i think i recall that with the latter option the game sound is more in the foreground and the jukebox sound is in the background. It would nicer i think the other way round (game sound almost muted and jukebox sound stealing the show. The thought occured to me before (but i never made it a feature request) because i think if you had a few people round the older folk would like to listen to music while the younger crowd would like to play games. You should make it a feature request (i would personally but i've just posted a jukebox feature request and i've had a few jukebox feature wishes granted already !)

In the meantime, you could set up another emulator and have it launch playlist in a CLI player before mame. This might also be beneficial if you only want music with few games and not all of them. Just add the games you want to that emulator.

The only problem with the CLI option is that you will have no control over the process once it's launched. You would need to add another emulator/application to send "tskill <media player used>" to kill your playlist.

i've found that this particular scenario is what happens when you play a game that is being ran by the gameex 'mame screen saver'

the game audio is severely attenuated .. and the jukebox is cranking away ... but u can still play.
