I just rebuilt my htpc and gaming pc and reinstalled the pc completely.... everything is working fine except for I first installed the cccp and media player would not play videos fine and when I tried to play in GameEx I would get no video and the audio would keep playing and I could not exit out lest the one finger salute (reset button). but oddly enough I could make snaps.... So I figured problem with GameEx and cccp... so I reinstalled Windows completely (format drive, reinstall everything from scratch) and installed just ffdshow. same problem... except now when I try to load videos in media player... over 3/4 the screen is washed out. I know the PC is stable... I was using it for my main pc while I was waiting for replacement parts for my laptop I normally use as my main pc.... the absolute minimum is installed on this pc so I really don't think it is a software hardware issue.... Is there an issue with the newest version of ffdshow because this seems to be the common factor.... I know the last time I had my htpc up I had absolutely no problems throwing just about any video format at it.... and I am running the latest version of Gameex 8.88 and I did try the latest versions of ffdshow and CCCP.

Any ideas would be greatly appreciated...

in case anyone wants to possible rule out video card audio card etc... specs...

Okay are you using FFDShow Tryouts? those are the latest...and most likely broken in different degree's.

Now I'm hoping you don't have both ffdshow and CCCP installed at the same time...as CCCP is just a nice packaging for ffdshow...

Also with CCCP you need to register the codec's with WMP...its an option during installation...other wise you'll have to stick with MPC...for while your out of GX...and if this hasn't been done....it may also be the cause of the problem with GX...but I'm not sure.

Yes I was using the tryouts....

no I wasn't using them both at the same time....

I did make sure I registered them with Media Player...

I did try a few other things while I was at it... I was running media player 10 and upgraded to 11... didn't help....

I also tried installed xvid directly and setting the plugins to use xvid... same thing....

when I use media player classic though it works fine....

and it's still doing the same thing in Gameex.....

I have a feeling it's not Gameex... but the plugin doing the same thing... I'm just hoping I'm not alone with this weird problem....

Try the version of ffddshow available on the main page.

You will have the best luck with a full windows install. Gameex doesn't play so nice with the stripped down versions, or so I've heard.

what's really odd is I just did a full reinstall from scratch... loaded videos in media player... workurted fine... attempted to load from gameex.... didn't show video but was playing audio.... as soon as I did that the video problem recurred..... I'm giving up... this is making my head hurt ^^;

If you use CCCP you might want to turn off dvix, xvid, etc (everything but ffdshow. I was having the same kind of problems until I did that.

just tried something new... reloaded pc from scratch again.... after I installed everything opened a movie in windows media player... worked fine... loaded gameex..... video tried to oad but didn't and all I got was audio.... afterwards tried to load a movie in Media player again.... and it started the problem I have been experiencing..... seems like something is happening when I first load a video in Gameex that is causing media player to act up. ideas?

just tried the install with a stock windows xp install.... still doing the same $#%%$^%$^ thing!!!!! I give up and waive the white flag of surrender...

well.. I was able to get it working with the xvid codec by itself.. looks like I am going to have to install the codecs 1 by 1 because ffdhow is not working for me period....

if anyone else has this problem... uninstall ffdshow and install the native codecs.. worked for me..,,,

final report on this issue just in case someone else runs into it.....

ffdshow and gameex were NOT playing nice....

solution: install all codecs by hand....

and if you need a h.264 codec.... coreavc....

it's 8 bucks... but it was well worth it for me.....

the codecs I installed to play just about everything

haali media splitter

vsfilter (subtitles)

coreavc

xvid

ogg vorbis

CoreWavPac

this has covered every video currently on my pc...

well that was fun two days....

this post can be closed... the problem is resolved... I just wanted to leave my experience and solution due to it may help someone else...

Also if you just disable the sounds for video snaps GameEx will not lock up when viewing video snaps no matter what codecs pack you use.Thats what I did. <_<

You know, I never used sound with my snaps.... but decided to try it since every once in a while someone is having problems.

darschaschkna is completely right.

ffdshow disabled and xvid codec installed will work great.

ffdshow set to use xvid codec will not work.

ffdshow with libav will not work.

ffdshow audio codec works regardless.

I noticed that if you turn the snap sound off and use ffdhow with xvid codec it will have the stuttering and pausing issue that a lot of people were having not to long ago. but the libav codec works fine.
