Updated 'M' Icons & Favorites Pack! Finally!!

Adultery

Recommended Posts

Hello everyone!

Sorry to sit on my laurels for so long, but here is the updated logo set finally! I know GameEx can't handle both of the live icons yet, but hopefully Tom will assign each catagory its own logo in the next build. So in addition to the originals, there's 4 new icons:

A GameEx Live MAWS Icon, A GameEx Live Favorites icon, a generic Live icon and a Not Played icon. I will be uploading the extended set with all the custom folders and matching text later on in the day, so be on lookout for those.

Simply extract these to the current theme's Media/Logos directory and there ya go!

Thanks to everyone who was waiting!

Be sure to thank Amos for making the original design and releasing the PSD so I could finish these. :)

@Tom: For the Live icons, I was hoping for live1.png for the GameEx Favorites logo and live2.png for the MAWS Hall of Fame logo. Would this be possible?

So, I finished making all the custom logos that accompany my GameEx Favorites inis. Folks, I give you the ConfigHQ Extended MAME Icon Pack (Update 2). This rar includes all the icons for MAME, a set of custom MAME folders by genre, and custom icons for these folders. If you like the M series, these will compliment the existing set rather nicely. :)

TO INSTALL:

Simply unzip the archive and place all the logos in the theme's MEDIA/LOGOS folder. These logos are in two folders within the archive: MAME Icons and Favorites/Icons.

Extract the contents Favorites Folders to a convienient place on your hard drive. Go into GameEx settings, and point GameEx at this folder. The setting is under MAME Advanced Setup I believe... Last page under a setting called custom MAME lists or what have you.

Update your game list.

If you did everything right, you got yourself a complete set of icons.

Enjoy!!

Click this link to download the full set.

@HeadKaze: Not sure I can do that... I think I know how but I'm not 100%. I'll have to do some tinkering around.

I already fixed mine :)

FYI to fix this problem, I did the following

In Photoshop select Image->Adjustments->Replace Color

Select pure black at the top Color Select, then set Lightness to 5.

You can of course just go Image->Adjustments->Brightness/Contrast and change the brightness but I think replace colour will mainly effect the black rather than the whole image.

Thanks HK! I'll do that and update the pack before anyone downloads it. ;)

UPDATE: This issue has been fixed in both packs. If anyone already downloaded these, download them again please. :)

You can create your own 'favorites' files for use in GameEx. I made several that are lists by genre (casino, fighting, platformers, puzzle, etc) and included icons for them all. Now if you put those in, point GameEx at them (under custom lists in Advanced MAME Settings), and update the MAME list, the extra icons will show up on the main MAME screen in GameEx. Kind of an added little piece of bling if you will.

I like that, I never new about this feature. Will have to give this a try :)

I'm a little confused, I see that the ini files should go in Mame\customfolders but where do I put the icons?

EDIT: Nevermind I found out you just place the icons in the logo's folder for your theme. These are brilliant BTW :)

Okay...

I updated the Extended MAME Icon Pack to it's final version. All the games in all categories of the favorites files are current as of MAME 0.120 (which happily adds SF3 among some other less significant releases). I also seperated MAZE & PUZZLE games to be two seperate catagories and created an icon for each. The update includes all folders, icons, and GameEx default icons, which can be downloaded here:

CHQ Extended MAME Icons Pack (v0.120)

For those of you who prefer the default MAME icons for GameEx, that pack includes all the default categories and is available here:

Default MAME icons for GameEx

All icons in both packs have had the Absolute Black bug fixed (thanks Headkaze!), and the new icons have been further smoothed to remove any impurities that were there before (which was really noticable in the Valhalla theme).

This should do it for now... I'll keep the psd around in case Tom adds any more categories in the future. I'm also going to move this to the icons and themes sticky so it doesn't get buried in the forum.

Thanks for downloading and enjoy! :)

@ iano: Gotta love them plasma screens... I'll have a look at them on the PC and polish them further. Sorry!

PS - I deleted your post on accident (stoner moment!) I apologize for that.

I have a problem seeing the Extended Pack on my system. The default icons look good, except there is some black pixels scattered around on some which makes it look kinda cheap. :( I'm using the Blue Hybrid Widescreen theme. I copied all of the extended pack icons to the same folder with the default icons (/media/icons). Then I moved the extracted folder for the INI's to the root path of theme. Configured GameEx as per your instructions (pointing the custom lists to the INI folder). I then rebuilt the mame rom list. No go.

Don't worry Han. Adultery's gonna fix this. The black pixels only happen on the 'Live' & 'Not Played' logos (i'm using the Default - Media Center theme). You'll just have replace those logos later when it's fixed.

Thanks again Adultery for the logos (i think the new set looks better than the old).

Hi Han.

The pixel problem surfaced when I lightened up the absolute black, I will be fixing this tomorrow (I'm off to a concert today). If you're still having issues with custom lists, I posted much more thorough instructions in the Theme Release thread.

Thanks for using these! :)

I just erased the imperfectins and changed the BG to absolute black. I'll be testing tonight.

I think I figured out why the "new" icons weren't showing up. I tried moving the folder with the INI's in it to the mame folder, adding to the list of /roms /artwork /snaps, etc. I then did a quick rom update, and the new lists showed up, but no icons. I did a theme change, then came back and it worked! Probably exiting and restarting GX would have workd out too. But I wanted to let you know that you should reword your instructions. You say default path is "blah blah blah". I took that to mean you could make it any path. That doesn't work for some reason. By putting it into the MAME path, it seemed to work perfectly.

Adultery -

Here is an alternative psd...got bored and was looking to get it more opened up...tried to produce a glass like effect and...well it failed...so far. ;)

I gained a mild percentage over the prior ones, but nothing worth while.

Down side is mine you have to work with much larger images...as you need to scale down...not up...other wise images will look like ass.

Nice work Nologic ! Looks in keeping with your other logos. I think it would look well with Amos's 'Future Retro' theme.

Great work Nologic!

Hmm now we just need to organise all the logo's together into a pack of some kind O_O

Okay I put together a little batch file for creating logo's in bulk using Nologic's graphics and ImageMagick.

Here's how it works.

1. Download and install ImageMagick

2. Download and extract the attached LogoCreator.zip.

3. Place background images (in png format) in the Backgrounds folder

4. Run the runme.bat batch file

It should output the resulting logo's into the Output folder. Okay it's probably not as good as creating them by hand but at least anyone can create logo's now without owning Photoshop :)
