if i use mame32, gameEx will do an audit and all my games will be there. But useing the command line version of mame, the audit reveals "no games found". My paths are correct, using the commandline mame works fine, games run, but not with gameEx... very frustrating.

I've seen a few posts on the forum regarding this but none of them offer a solution besides rechecking paths 'n stuff. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks in advance!

For reference, I'm using vanilla MAME 0.119 and it works fine. Paths and/or missing files are likely the issue.

Well if you are using MAME32 119 to generate your romlist then you can just replace that with vanilla mame 119 as they support the same romsets.

I also use vanilla mame 119 and have no issues.

if i audit them, it creates verify.dat in my mame dir and looking at the file, i have 1000's of good games

but none show up

looking at the log file, it says "cannot find mame path mame disable"

what i don't understand is that the mame path is a-ok, it even creates and saves the verify.dat file in the mame path

very vexing... perhaps i have a bad install....

sorry, my bad.. was reading an old log file :P

the new log file doesn't have any errors, they just don't show up (everything appears to be alright...)

does it matter that my mame exe is named mame.exe (really reaching here)

Since MOST of your stuuf is on your E Drive Id try removing the mame32 (just copying it somewhere else) along with all its supplimentel files like chdman etc.... There might be about 8 or so... Then Id copy the new mame in that folder.

This way you mame path would be MAME Path is: e:\jason\Old_Mame32\

And your roms folder would be in the default location for mame e:\jason\Old_Mame32\roms\

Wasn't mame32 working properly? Why are you showing us the configuration of mame32. or am I missing something?

Posted

i tried again, with everything on the E drive with no difference

I don't want to use mame32 unless i have to. I would like something a little more zippy and light weight. There should be no reason why i can't use mame.exe

Posted

Is the log file you showed us for mame or mame32? It shows mame32 directories....

If you want us to help you get mame working you have to show us the regular mame log file.

There's no reason you can't use MAME or MAME32 for your installation. I've never tried MAME32 in command line mode, but I'm going to guess that there's no difference in speed between them since it's not loading anything special for just launching the rom over what you get for MAME. Either way, my suggestion would be to try having everything in the default MAME paths for whatever MAME installation you want to try. I don't see any reason why it should be a problem having it split out the way you do, but I would try getting it going with the typical install first and then split stuff out where you want it.

Yes, ben kenobi, i agree with you.

It should work. perhaps some voodoo witch has my mame cabinet as a doll and is putting pins in it.

i'll try all the default paths and if that still doesn't work, i guess i'll have to use mame32 vs mame...

I would like to stick with the non-gui mame if possible as it has cps3 support (didn't see any mention of cps3 in the release notes for mame32)

Both mame and mame 32 support the same rom sets.

Yes even streetfighter III

Yeah, if MAME32 is the same version number as MAME, you will be getting the same core with some extra front end stuff. Basically it is EXACTLY the same engine with a little flash for Windows users to help in picking games.

I am having a similar kind of problem. I have some games that are not showing up on the list although they appear in the mame32 gui. I have tried refreshing the rom list in game ex, but it does not fix them.....any help?

Check your rom filters..

Gameex by DEFAULT will hide imperfect games, clones, japan, bootleg etc.....

Posted

The one game I noticed is Guwange (Japan). I have turned the filters off and also tried deleting the filter string....still same problem....tried on my desktop and on arcade machine....guwange won't show up.

ADD that rom to the DO NOT filter list.

After changing your filters you need to re-update the rom list

I managed to get my hands on mame32.119 and everything suddenly works wonderfully. The only thing i had to do was not use the command line version of mame, which makes no sense. Using the gui version worked.

Thanks all for your help!
