Stu1983
Here's a set of console MDBs that I've already renamed the column and added the extra column so you can jump straight to step 4EDIT:Here's the rest of the MDBs ready to be dropped straight into my toolStu
LB11
Ill do those databases tonight when I get home. I never really worked with access. All I did was open the table. right click on category, select rename, type in Multi Category - press enter. Close the database which asks to save and I do. Then try and load the file in your tool. Am I doing it the wrong way?
LB11
You missed the part about creating a new category in the instructions... I was just renaming the old one. I checked out what you did and noticed I had to rename then ADD a new empty one called category. Anyways im almost done with the consoles. But super nintendo only imported about 5 games from the database. If I opened it up all the games were there.
LB11
I think thats all of them. Can you try the Super Nintendo stu? Id really like to have that one done. Most of the others seemed to load quite a bit except for the Odyssey's MDB. They were empty anyways.EDIT: Check Page 3 of this thread for any databases that are completely filled in._Console__Microsoft_Xbox.zip_Console__NEC_TurboGrafx_CD.zip_Console__Nintendo_GameCube.zip_Console__Nintendo_NES.zip_Console__Panasonic_3DO.zip_Console__Philips_CD_i.zip_Console__Philips_Odyssey_2.zip_Console__Philips_Odyssey.zip_Console__Sega_32X.zip_Console__Sega_CD.zip_Console__Sega_Dreamcast.zip_Console__Sega_Genesis.zip_Console__Sega_Master_System.zip_Console__Sega_Saturn.zip_Console__SNK_Neo_Geo_CD.zip_Console__SNK_Neo_Geo.zip_Console__Sony_PlayStation_2.zip_Console__Sony_Playstation.zip_Console__NEC_TurboGrafx_16.zip_Console__Nintendo_N64.zip
LB11
I just tried them myself, either the tool is not importing the info right, the xml files are not right, or gameex doesnt like the new categories. Because they are completely wrong! I went to nes and tried racing and I dont think 1 racing game ended up in there! Tried racing in N64 and got tennis and all kinds of stuff! And Mortal Kombat is considered traditional already? I hope I didnt do something wrong. I was thinking maybe all the slots that didnt get filled in from the tool have to be filled in (I noticed it didnt fill in all games, mostly japaneese stuff)? Is that possible? LB11
I didnt have time to test it too much, but I checked the turbografx database which I think had 1 empty slot towards the end and most of it came up properly. So we might have to manually fill in all the spots the tool does not fill in.
bkenobi
You don't have to do it manually. If you need a value in a field that's blank in an mdb and the value is constant, you can easily just use an update query to pull all the rows that are blank and update them to whatever value you want... LB11
I'm not sure how to set up queries. Its not that hard to just enter the data in the table. But I don't know what category most of the games are, I could pull them from the old categories, but some of them have 3 different categories listed, and I don't know which would be most appropriate (the new categories also add "shooter" "traditional" "Puzzle" and whatnot which were all labled different before) . Its also a lot more time consuming. I wont be home till Sunday night anyways, so I will try and fill one completely and see what happens if stu or nologic or someone doesn't have a better answer before then. Nologic
Well you have done the rough-in on several db's...its highly likely that one of the other db's from that collection has a given game in it, already defined...as some systems are more done than others over at AllGames...and a number of games where ported between several systems. You should be able to find which ones need to be done, by simply changing the sort order on the Cat field as null value fields will be at one end...so should save some hunting.Just make sure what ever values you enter are ether match AllGames values, or that you know certain AllGames values should be used.We don't want to get to wild with whats being entered into the db's.If some fields have to for the time being be null thats fine...we'll get it in due time...but the fewer the better. If at all else when I get back in town I'll finish things up.
bkenobi
I would prefer that the fields contain a common value such as <NONE> or something that won't match another value. You could even put in a space for now, but it would be harder to see if you were manually looking through the data.
Stu1983
Woo thats some great work you've done LB11!I just tested your N64 mdb in my cab and its working perfect I checked all the games in the racing category and they are all driving games of some sort and Mortal Kombat is showing up in fighting as expected... it must be something on your end that messing things up for you.I've a SNES file almost complete, I've just a few games left to add... I've been manually googling any game without a category to see what it is and the assigning it one myself using the AllGames category names, I know it slow doing it manually but there's never really that many to doI'll get tucked into a few more hopefully this eveningStu
SpyDIRmaN
I've noticed that there are a number of listings in allgames, for games that are not currently in the MDBs. In particular systems like Playstation have a number of games that the current MDBs don't list at all. For example: "Stuart Little 2" for Playstation is listed on allgames, but appears nowhere in any MDB for use with GameEx.I had just been entering the info Manually for the missing games that i had, but it would be great (now that we have the data) to get those games in there. I took a quick look at the MDBs that LB11 just did and while the allgames Cat info went in just fine, the missing games are, well, still missing. I know, I know "one thing at a time", but there are plans in the works to add the games (listed in the all games database) that were previously missing before right? Nologic
There are no plans of yet, but I'm sure its something we'll get covered. Not to mention all the additional systems offered in AllGames that weren't offered prior by Moby.

LB11
Thanks for the SNES stu, you didnt have a problem with it? Well, in case anyone else has a problem with the new databases, go to the advanced config > Admin > Delete all game data. That fixed my problem. They are all loading properly now. I like them MUCH better!Gameex probably had the category list cached somewhere and it pulled up the new categories and used the old list? Who knows. When I get time i might start filling in all the empty categories. At least for the emus I use.
LB11
Is there a database floating around somewhere for raine by chance? Does gameex create one for the mame list? maybe we could just point it to that?
LB11
Im going through the genesis database to fill in whatever I can and noticed that there are a few games that have a different Goodname from actual goodname.... Whats that all about. One example is Goodname = Cyber-Coprealname = corporationI played the rom and its definately called cybercop!I also noticed that most of the games not filled in (for this database at least) are listed as (Cancelled) The few of those "cancelled" that I checked, I didnt happen to have a rom for it...Anyways, the bottom line is, Im going to import the missing categories from all game whenever available, and im going to do it with the good name since that seems to be what the actual game is. For the most part they should be considered complete without the extra importing since there is very few real world cases that a game someone has would be missing the info. From what I see anyways. Nologic
Goodname = Cyber-Coprealname = corporationGenerally this is the case of a game being released first on a different system with a different name than the active system. So yeah working off GoodName is probably the quickest route to go. SpyDIRmaN
Great work on the DBs fellas! Much easier to use now! I've noticed something a bit strange now in GameEx, I have a couple of emus set up in GROUPS but using the same DB. (ie 2 versions of Project64 both set to use the same DB, and then grouped in gameEx). Anyway, while the DB list seems to show up fine (all the game data, etc is there) I can't seem to sort by anything but game name. All the other options (category, year, etc) don't work, and just continue to show every game. Is this a short coming on GameEx's side or is there a better way to set things up so it all works smooth?I hope that made enough sense to understand. I'm a bit hungover and tired tonight I'm not sure why this would be but I'm wondering why you would have to Emu's set up for the same emulator? Are you using different internal settings for the 2 Project 64's to play different games better or something? This is something I thought about doing a while ago but never looked into it, if you are doing this I'd be interested in seeing the settings you using and for what games.Stu
