I'm a registered user of GameEx now and still lovin' it!

I'm trying to setup some PC games, Zsnes and Fusion to work with GameEx. The PC games are playing lovelly but I've got some issues with Zsnes and listing the games.

First of all, GameEx is failing to find my snes roms. I'm sure the rom directories are set correctly and there is no rom filter but still it says no games found. I suspect that because none of my SNES roms have file extensions that GameEx is failing to find them, is this likely?

When trying to prepare a group of emulators so to have all my games from arcade, PC, Fusion and Zsnes as one flat list I'm able to add PC Games and Fusion (and I assume Zsnes when it finds my roms) in one list but not my mame roms. How do you add mame to an emulator group?

ANy help would be much appreciated.

MAME cannot be added to an emulator group.. Daphne cant either

Only games setup in the emulated games section can at this time... With that said...

Are your snes games in ZIP files... If so make your romfilter *.zip.. Also try disabling 7zip support and any Db file for that emu..

Your rom filter should be file file extention of the file you are calling.

Let us know if this works.. It should

What kind of files are they if there is no extension on them!? If there really is no extension, try putting *.* in the filter list

I "acquired" the complete collection of 700 odd SNES roms and really, none of them have a file extension although they do work when selected from Zsnes. Cheers for the suggestions I'll experiment some more.

I'm assuming there is nothing stoppiong me setting up mame as any other emulator in order to build a complete list, will that work?

Also, my 5000 odd "acquired" complete collection of Genesis roms carry a hell of a lot of clones. The roms are coded with things like [!], [h1], , etc. I've figured out that means US origin and such like for E and J but no idea what any of the others mean, anyone come across this before? Also, any suggestions of how to trim this list down but keep the best of the available clones?

"aqquire" a no-inro rom set. You have a goodset.

Iam sure you do not know your file extention because windows is hiding it. Go into your command prompt and navitgate to your roms folder.

if your rom are in your c:\ drive in a folder called ROMS then you would type

CD c:\roms

then do a DIR command

Dir /p /w

This will give you a full file list including the file extension.. All files have these.. Or SHOULD

A file extension is anything after the .

Like the file extension for SUPERMARIO.ZIP is ZIP

a * is a wildcard.... Programing your romfilter as *.zip is essentially saying all files that share the ZIP extention...

Ah, so you're suggesting if I filter on [!] then I'm probably fine, right..?

These SNES roms defo do not have file extensions. Its possible to rename a file in windows and remove its file extension so I assume thats what has happened here. Like I said, they do work with Zsnes but can't be found by GameEx. What file extesnion would you expect a SNES rom to have, perhaps I can rename a few and see what happens. Otherwise, maybe I should scour for another list of roms.

I have a few Ideas.. You can always use goodtools to rename your romset correctly based on the CRC..

Roms can be distrubted in many formats...zip,rar,7z smc etc... Really there are alot.

Im sure this is an easy fix tho.. be patient and try goodtools

I've had more of a play with this now. I've renamed a few roms to .smc and applied a filter in the advanced configuration but it still says no ROMs found. Just as an experiment I also directed my SNES emulator to look for the Genesis ROMs and applied a .bin filter but it still said no ROMs available.

I'm quite sure I've set the emulator page up correctly. There is no reason why my Fusion emulator should work but my ZSNES fail, they are very similar!

Any further ideas..?

If you want to get everything in the folder to show up and you only have correct working roms in that directory, you could just remove the filter. I don't know if it can be blank, but *.* will show everything.

I'm skeptical that the files wouldn't have an extension on them. I personally hate that MS decided that people don't need to see file extensions anymore, so they have them turned off by default. I highly recommend that EVERYONE turn them back on! To do that:

Open File Exporer
Select Tools -> Folder Options...
Select the View tab
Deselect "Hide extensions for known file types"

This will allow you to see what you actually have on your hard drive. If you are used to the MAC or Linux, you might not be comfortable/familiar with file extensions since I don't think they really use them, but in a DOS based system, they are very important!

Hoenstly... I absolutely do have file extensions visible, I can see all other file extensions of all other files. It is posible that files can be renamed to something without a file extension and I suspect that whoever built this collection did just that so that only game names were listed in whatever SNES emulator front end he was using.

Have tried without a filter and with a filter of *.* and yet GameEx does not pick them up.

Anyhoooo... I suspect this isn't the cause of the issue. I've renamed some files so to give them a .smc extension and with / without a filter gameex still fails to find them. Directing the directory and filter of my SNES emulator setup to look for my Genesis roms and it still doesn't find them - although I cannot understand what I've done wrong in the SNES setup, its very similar to the Genesis setup.

Hmmm, that is a strange way to keep roms, but oh well. I can't think of any reason GameEx wouldn't find the files if you are pointing the roms dir to the right place and you have the right filter (so desired files are in the filter). This has nothing to do with what emulator you are using as GameEx doesn't care. All it is doing is listing files that apply in the list. GameEx can list any kind of file you tell it to, so I don't see what the problem is here.

I don't understand it but the new collection of SNES Roms with file extensions works a dream. I'm sure very few people would bother with a collection of roms without file extensions - I wouldn't by choice - but it may be worth keeping in mind that this may be an issue with GameEx.

Thanks for your support everyone :D
