Gamex freezes when building Mame game list

Hi. I've just installed Gamex and all of the supporting technologies (e.g. DirectX, .NET). When I run the program I point to a previous install of Mame32 that has a couple of roms setup. GamEx correctly shows the Mame category and then attempts to build the game list. However, it freezes every time at 65% progress (verify.dat). I can't seem to get pass this and I cannot play any games because the list is not built.

Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.

What are your pc specs.. And how patient have you been... This process can take from 15 to 30 min

Some people have reported slow machines taking in the hours to build the list, but I've never had to wait more than 30 minutes with my 3000+. Just FYI.

Hi. My PC specs are exactly at the minimum. I didn't realize it could take this long to build the gamelist. I've probably been force quitting early. I will try again.

F.Y.I, I've only downloaded about 6 roms but there are hundreds of placeholder entries in Mame32. Any reason why it should take this long? Is it going out and getting additional files such as artwork?

thanks.

Try setting the following settings under "Advanced Mame Settings" to blank:

Catver ini location

Nplayers ini location

History dat location

MAMEinfo dat location

Controls ini location

You can also try disabling "Use Game Filter" and set "Verify roms" to "No".

Generally, there's a lot of tweakable stuff in there, so try some different changes until you get it working. First though, I'd suggest you disable the verify feature. :]
