i had advancemame up and running wonderfully a year ago on gameex, but since i upgraded to vista my mind has gone a blank and can't remember what to do.

do i need to configure anything within the advancemame config? do i need to disable mame in gameex, but allow it in advancemame?

sorry for the questions, but i just can't believe i have forgotten how to set it up

All I did when I tried it recently was put "use advanced mame" = yes

and then point to the directory where it was. Worked great.

dont have to disable mame or anything.

could it just be that advancemame isn't compatible with vista yet? also, i'm not entirely sure what i've done, but i can now only see 94 roms from a possible 4000+. have i deleted/overwritten something?

i think i'll just go back to the normal mame until advancemame is vista ready.

thanks all!

You need to make sure that advancemame works on its own before you try it in GameEx. You will be debugging too much at once. Your best bet is to either run it from the command line like original MAME, or try it with one of the simple loaders (I think the advancemame team even has one).

However, just as an aside, I was able to get it going just by putting the advancemame files in my main MAME dir and telling GameEx where stuff was. Your error sounds like a compatibility problem with Vista, but it could be something that can be fixed by trying the above...

I think advanced mame stopped development around version 106 So there is probably going to be no vista fix unless a 3rd party makes something.

You have to use the vanilla build of MAME to build the list. I don't think all builds are fully compatible with outputting what GameEx needs for whatever reason. Basically, if you want to use advanceMAME, you still need a vanilla mame for setting everything up and then turn on advMAME for playing.

Yeah. I didn't get this at first, cos I had no idea why you'd need that for advmame, within GE. However, like mentioned above, always troubleshoot on its own, first. If it don't work, then you know where to start - in this case, not to use it, as it's out of development.

I started out using AdvMAME in my cab w/ GameEx, but then turned it off for one reason or another (I think it was light gun compatibility). I really liked how it looked on my TV, but I would rather have something that always works and looks good rather than something that usually works and looks awesome. What are you going to do...
